Han Solo Spin-Off Movie Cast: Harrison Ford Wants ‘Nothing To Do With It’
Warning: Text contains major Star Wars: The Force Awakens spoilers.
The Han Solo movie cast might be far from decided, but the spin-off definitely won’t be featuring a certain cameo. This article contains a major Star Wars spoiler, so if you haven’t seen The Force Awakens and don’t want anything given away, feel free to read something else.
We all know the iconic “scruffy-looking nerf-herder” and how he became involved in a rebellion, which ended in the destruction of an empire. We also know that the closest he came to destroying the Death Star was as backup for Luke in the first film.
One thing we don’t know is who will be playing the role of the younger Han Solo when the spin-off movie is cast. According to official canon, he grew up to be a space pirate, having led a less than glamorous life until some plucky boy from Tatooine showed up asking for his help. The film could easily be a dark and gritty story about how Han met Lando and ended up earning a life debt from a Wookiee. That would be impressive to see, as long as it doesn’t take the same route as the prequels.
What those who haven’t seen the film don’t want to know is that Han Solo dies in The Force Awakens, and what even less of us know is that Harrison Ford wanted the character to die decades earlier. According to Ace Show Biz, Ford had wanted Han to die in an honorable sacrifice in Return of the Jedi. The actor had revealed this in a taped interview on Conan.
“It was a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away … I thought the best utility of the character would be for him to sacrifice himself to a high ideal and give a little bottom, a little gravitas to the enterprise, not that there wasn’t some already but I just wanted in on some part of it. That was at the third occasion of filming the original three.”
It certainly would have given Han a compelling character arc, turning from a pirate who was only in it for the money to an honorable hero who pays the ultimate price to help destroy the empire. Instead, Harrison Ford got his wish in The Force Awakens, making the film his last time ever playing the role.
This, of course, means that the Han Solo movie cast will not include Harrison Ford, even in a cameo. According to Blastr, Harrison stated why he wants nothing to do with the Han Solo spin-off movie or its cast.
“As far as the movie featuring a young Han Solo. I don’t know what to think about that. I’m glad that somebody else is is going to have the burden of being young. It’s well beyond my understanding or control and I personally want nothing to do with it, in the nicest possible way. I know it will be well done and well guided. And, um, it’s nothing to do with me.”
As previously reported by The Inquisitr, the Han Solo movie cast is already entering the audition phase, even though the film is still a few years from its projected release date. Hundreds of young actors in the suggested age range of late teens to early twenties have already sent their submissions, and Star Wars head Kathleen Kennedy might even go with someone older if it works that way.

A lot of speculation is expected in the coming years about what the story will encompass, and if we’ll see younger versions of Lando Calrissian and Chewbacca.
One thing we now know for sure is that Harrison Ford will not be in the Han Solo movie spin-off cast. He wants “nothing to do with it.”
