Katy Perry Insinuates Russell Brand Split Was Because He Threatened Her Career

Pop singer Katy Perry is going through one of those weird periods where you revisit your last major relationship, one would think, if her recent interviews are any indication.

Recently, Katy Perry spoke about her upcoming concert documentary Part of Me, named for the song of the same moniker, and one that is widely believed to be about Brand, written in the wake of their divorce. In a recent chat, Perry reveals she cried over the split but would not elaborate.

Now, Perry suggests that the split came because Brand — who is a massive star in his own right — envied her success and was “weird” about her career.

Speaking of the split in another recent interview, Katy Perry explains:

“I thought to myself, ‘When I find that person that’s going to be my life partner, I won’t ever have to choose [between the partner and my career] …they won’t be threatened or have weird motives.’ Then I started to realize, that’s not true.

“I have that same belief system with everything, from career to my life to my personal life, everything. And I will do everything it takes to not fail. And I did everything it took, but it still failed.”

But, Perry says, she still doesn’t regret marrying Brand. She muses:

“Everybody asks me if I regret something, they ask me if it’s going to be that one moment [her marriage]… Actually it’s really a lesson learned and it’s super valuable, I could not buy this lesson. And I apply it to my life, I learn and a lot of the time, I get really good material for my songs.”

Brand has not commented on any of Katy Perry’s recent remarks.
