Ian Somerhalder’s Wife Nikki Reed Tries To Quiet Split Rumors With Sweet Belated B-Day Message

In light of all the questions concerning her marriage with Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder, Nikki Reed recently shared a heartfelt message to her husband on social media. In a post to her Instagram account, Reed expressed her love and devotion to Somerhalder in celebration of his recent 37th birthday.

“You are my every dream brought to life. With our hands pressed together I know that we will always find our way home. You are a gift to this world, a teacher of light and a student of love. You radiate warmth in vibrant reds and deep orange hues. I often wonder what it would be like to see autumn arrive through your eyes. Here is to the next 65 years together, holding hands, strolling through the woods, still learning, still listening. Happy happy birthday…I love you.”

The message was attached to an image of an artist’s rendition of the phrase “I Love You” and was posted a full three days after Somerhalder celebrated his birthday on December 11.

According to Celebuzz, this is not the first time Reed and Somerhalder have expressed their undying love for each other on social media. In fact, the two are known for being open about their relationship to the public, which includes open displays of affection.

That being said, Reed and Somerhalder are reportedly having problems with their marriage, and Reed’s failure to offer any words to her husband on his birthday only fueled more speculation that the two were headed for a split. Although nothing official has been leaked, it is thought that the belated birthday message is an attempt by Reed to quell some of the rumors of a coming split.

Meanwhile, aside from celebrating his birthday, Somerhalder is currently dealing with starring in the hit show without Nina Dobrev for the first time. Although the series has suffered lower than average ratings since Dobrev’s departure from the show, Somerhalder recently opened up about the new direction the series is taking moving forward.

“I personally think everyone thought it was going to be a huge departure after Elena (Nina Dobrev) was gone,” Somerhalder explained in an interview with Variety. “And I was one of those people. I thought it was going to be a huge departure for the typical formula of our show. By virtue of the fact that it wasn’t a huge leap for mankind, as far as changing it up, there were some differences that sort of mixed up the formula.”

While Somerhalder is remaining loyal to the show despite its low ratings, Dobrev is determined to move on with her career. Although many fans desperately want her to return to The Vampire Diaries, especially in light of the low ratings, Dobrev told Entertainment Weekly that her time on the show is officially over.

“That chapter is closed, sadly – bittersweet,” she stated.

For Dobrev, moving on with her career means taking her talents to the big screen. According to Franchise Herald, Dobrev is being heavily considered for a role in the new Baywatch film, and is currently involved in a project with Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) titled Arrivals.

In addition to her upcoming movies, Dobrev has stated that she is eager to work on something that is darker than anything she has done in the past, including her work in television.

“I want to do something dark and gritty,” Dobrev revealed in an interview with WhoWhatWear. “I want to work with directors that I admire and that will make me better and actors that will challenge me and scare the s**t out of me.”
