Former Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev did not take kindly to recent reports involving the motivations behind her new relationship with Austin Stowell. In particular, the actress is apparently upset with the notion that she is using her new relationship as a means to make ex-boyfriend and former co-star Ian Somerhalder jealous.
According to Realty Today , Dobrev was upset following reports that she was treating the Whiplash star as a rebound instead of a genuine relationship. In particular, it was rumored that Dobrev was making an attempt to get back with Somerhalder by making him jealous.
Despite these rumors concerning Dobrev’s intentions and desire to make Somerhalder jealous, a recent sighting confirms that Dobrev and Stowell’s relationship is still going strong.
In fact, based on a report by KDramaStars , Dobrev and Stowell were recently spotted working out together in a local gym in Vancouver, Canada. At the same time, the couple, who have been together for half a year were also seen getting up close and personal during a vacation in Southern France.
Although Dobrev has yet to officially address these mounting rumors, the latest sightings seem to indicate that her relationship with Stowell is serious in nature and has nothing to do with her past history with Somerhalder.
Prior to Dobrev’s relationship with Stowell, which started this past June, the actress was involved with Somerhalder in 2013. Although the two did not release anything official in regards to their split, it is thought that the cause of the breakup centered on Somerhalder’s desire to start a family, which Dobrev was not ready to do.
Following their public breakup, Somerhalder started a relationship with former Twilight alum Nikki Reed in 2014. Somerhalder and Reed exchanged vows this past April.
Meanwhile, along with all the drama surrounding Dobrev and Somerhalder, The Vampire Diaries continues on for the first time without Dobrev’s character, Elena Gilbert. Although the series has tried its best to expand its storyline in light of Dobrev’s exit, the show has faced a number of different challenges that may put the future of the series in jeopardy.
According to Christian Today , the seventh and current season of The Vampire Diaries has seen the lowest ratings in recent memory. In response to the decrease in viewership, the network announced that the show would be moved from its usual Thursday night time slot to Friday night, a clear signal that the show may be headed for cancellation. The change in schedule is set to take place after the series comes back following the winter break.
In light of these negative developments, many fans have expressed their concern for the show and have wondered if Dobrev will make a return anytime soon. With that in mind, Dobrev recently discussed the possibility of returning to the hit show and explained how she is looking forward to moving on to new projects.
“That chapter is closed, sadly,” Dobrev replied when asked about reprising her role as Elena on the show.
In terms of what comes next for Dobrev, the actress is wanting to expand her career to include some parts on the big screen. Additionally, Dobrev stressed that she does not want to take on any and every role that may come in her direction. Instead, she wants to focus on parts that really speak to her and are high in terms of quality.
“I’m not just going to accept something because it’s a lot of money,” Dobrev shared. “I’m an artist; content is incredibly important to me. I only want to keep moving up and up in terms of quality and be careful with perception.”
