Singing a little big of karaoke earned a young mom and military wife the right to sing at a Rascal Flatts concert this weekend.
Kimberly Morlino of Virginia Beach, Virginia, was competing in the Flatts Fest Karaoke Challenge where she was chose as the Grand Prize winner after her online video garnered the most votes.
Morlino performed the song “Black Velvet” which gave her 15 percent of the 35,000-plus votes that were cast using an online Facebook poll. The singer was recorded while performing at Farm Bureau Live in Virginia Beach.
Morlino will perform on Sunday, June 24 right before Rascal Flatts takes the stage, definitely not a bad first gig on a national stage.
For the military wife performing on the Rascal Flatts stage is especially meaningful because she says of her relationship with her husband, “‘God Bless the Broken Road’ is our song.”
Because her husband is in the military they do not always get to speak on the phone as much as she would like, she says of participating in the contest:
“Being a part of the contest has helped me not miss him quite as much.”
Next up for Kimberly? She plans to record her very first CD and release it in 2013.

Now comes the hard part, Kimberly Morlino will have to go from performing in front of a small crowd in Virginia Beach to a massive audience of sold out Rascal Flatts fans.
What did you think of Kimberly’s performance?
