Tony Hawk Threatens To Make Video Go Viral If Criminals Don’t Return His Skateboard
A tip for future criminals of Tony Hawk‘s personal property. If you don’t want your criminal act to go viral on the internet we highly suggest not stealing from the famed skateboarder, that was the lesson learned this week by several criminals who broke into his car to steal a skateboard.
Tony Hawk captured the break-in on his home’s security cameras then posted several screenshots on Instagram with the following message:
“To the a**holes that broke into my car & stole Calvin’s skateboard: return it or your video goes ‘viral’ as in ‘to the police.'”
The skateboard which belongs to the son of his girlfriend is a fairly rare design from Hawk’s company Birdhouse.
Hawk said of the theft:
“If they know anything about skateboards they’d know that they have something of value. I don’t think the guys that stole it knew it was my house. I can tell by the way they approached the house that they were actually looking for anyone that might have left something in their driveway in their car.”
Tony Hawk says he doesn’t want to report the incident to police and that the Instagram post was meant as a warning and a joke:
“To be honest, I did put that up as kind of a joke and kind of a warning, as well. My hope is that it does resonate and these guys realize what they’ve done and return it in guilt.”
While Tony Hawk said he might let the criminals skate by with a warning if they return the skateboard many of his Instagram followers have urged him to turn over the surveillance footage to police.
So let this be a warning to criminals, if you steal these days there is a really good chance you’ll end up with your very own unwanted viral news story or video.
