Either Jose Aldo Or Conor McGregor Will Join Ronda Rousey On ‘EA Sports UFC 2’ And Will Be Decided At ‘UFC 194: Aldo Vs. McGregor’
On Saturday, December 12, 2015, MMA fans will finally find out which top fighter in the UFC featherweight division is the best. It will be the champion José Aldo versus the interim champion Conor McGregor, a fight many UFC fans have been wanting for the longest time.
For those who don’t remember, “The Notorious” one has been the number one contender for UFC featherweight championship currently held by “Junior.” After defeating Dennis Siver at UFC Fight Night: McGregor vs. Siver back in January, McGregor was supposed to fight Aldo for the title during July’s premier UFC event. Unfortunately, Aldo suffered a rib injury which forced him out of the fight. As a replacement, Chad Mendes was called in to fight McGregor for the UFC interim featherweight champion at UFC 189: Mendes vs. McGregor. McGregor won but until he actually defeats Aldo, he is technically not the “true champion.”
At UFC 194: Aldo vs. McGregor, Conor McGregor will finally get his chance to prove to the world he is truly the best. Either that or José Aldo will once again add further proof that he is the best featherweight in all of MMA. And if that is not incentive enough, it is now reported the winner of the championship fight will accompany Ronda Rousey on the cover of EA Sports UFC 2.
Electronic Arts (EA) made the announcement on Thursday, December 2, 2015. According to MMA Weekly, EA iterated that the winner between José Aldo and Conor McGregor at their upcoming championship fight will earn the spot opposite former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey. EA did note this is the first time in its history that the winner of a real-world sporting event will get the opportunity to be included on any of their sports games’ covers. Usually, cover athletes are picked for their popularity and impact in said sport at the time of the game’s release.
UFC president Dana White also made a statement regarding EA’s announcement pertaining to who will be on the game’s cover. In the process, White surely hyped up UFC 194.
“The main event at UFC 194 between Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor is without a doubt one of the most anticipated events in UFC history. Aldo and McGregor are two of the biggest stars in the world and it’s fitting that next Saturday night the winner not only becomes the undisputed UFC featherweight champion, but also the second global cover athlete of EA Sports UFC 2.
Gamespot also reported on the news on how EA is selecting the second cover fighter for EA Sports UFC 2, but provided more details pertaining to the gaming side of things. To help hype this promotion, EA launched a special website in which fans vote their predictions on the upcoming championship fight via selection system. Who will win? When will they win (round)? How will they win (submission, knockout, etc.)? Once selections for the vote are made, a special video will pop up showcasing the outcome predicted. Also, selections will be calculated into community predictions and can only be changed if one were to make a new prediction.
EA Sports UFC 2 will release sometime in 2016 for both Xbox One and PlayStation 4. It will feature a new knockout physics system, new character models, and new modes. As for UFC 194: Aldo vs. McGregor, it will take place on Saturday, December 12, 2015, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. It can only be watched through pay-per-view.
