K-Pop Star Psy Is Back! — Releases New MVs As A ‘Daddy’ Rocking ‘Napal Baji’ Along With 2NE1’s Leader, ‘The Baddest B***h’ CL
In the K-pop industry, many of its fans often look towards comebacks of their seasoned veteran K-pop acts, especially ones who are quite popular. In 2015 alone, there have been numerous comebacks of note everyone has kept their eyes on. Girls’ Generation’s comeback would be the first as an eight-member group after Jessica Jung’s departure. 2NE1’s comeback was hyped for November 21, 2015, at 21:00, but it turned out to be CL’s new single leading up to her solo album debut. And speaking of CL, both her and BTS will be having their comeback stages at MAMA 2015.
However, there is one K-pop star who’s comeback that everyone, not just K-pop fans, look forward to. Just mere news of a new song by him often trends on social media and search engines, and it is all because of his viral hit, “Gangnam Style.” That K-pop star is Psy, and he is back, and this time, he is bringing reinforcement with “the baddest b***h” from 2NE1, CL.
Park Jae Sang, better known by his stage name, Psy, just released two new music videos for his upcoming comeback on his official YouTube, as reported by AllKpop. The first one is titled “Napal Baji,” which translates to “Bell Bottoms” (though it literally translates to “trumpet pants”). As one would assume by the title, Psy, along with the majority of extras, are wearing and dancing in bell bottoms. However, the song is about living it up. Lines (translated into English) about wearing stylish clothes, hanging out, drinking, dancing, and feeling good in the rich life point to such.
The second music video is titled “Daddy.” The lyrics (translated into English yet again) talks about three generations in a family, all played by Psy, and how they are heartthrobs among women. Also from the lyrics, it is revealed that the younger generations got their game from their daddy, thus the title of the song. It should also be noted this song is getting a lot more attention among American social media and news outlets, too. This is probably because it is the “newer upload” out of the two music videos featured. It is also probable that Psy, playing the role of all three generations of suave men via special effects and make-up, had something to do with the music video being more popular, too.
For seasoned fans following K-pop, “Daddy” being more popular probably comes down to who was featured in the song and music video. CL, the leader of 2NE1, is also in the song with one particular line when she sings, “Where did you get that body from?” Her inclusion is likely linked to her popularity, upcoming solo album debut, and recent release of her song “Hello B*****s.” K-drama fans were also treated, too, as the teacher was a cameo of popular actress Ha Ji Won (The Time We Were Not In Love, Empress Ki, Secret Garden).
Prior to the release of these music videos, Psy did make it known his next comeback would appeal to his international fans (those who know him for “Gangnam Style”). But it should be known K-pop fans who knew Psy before “Gangnam Style” are liking these two music videos because it is closer to Psy’s original style before his viral hit. Ergo, many K-pop fans believe “Daddy” and “Napal Baji” are superior, a testament reported by Asian Junkie.
These two music videos are a precursor for Psy’s next comeback album, his seventh one, which actually releases tomorrow, December 1, 2015, at 12:01 a.m. KST (assumed timezone). Other songs of note include “ROCKnROLLbaby” and “SING (PSYmix),” because the former features will.i.am of The Black Eyed Peas and the latter features Ed Sheeran.
