Johnny Depp Explains His ‘Super-Tight’ Relationship With ‘Sexually Fluid’ Teenage Daughter Lily Rose

Johnny Depp recently decided to open up about his close-knit relationship with his daughter, Lily Rose. In an interview with the Daily Mail, Depp revealed that he was not surprised with his daughter’s recent revelations regarding her sexuality and that there isn’t much that he doesn’t know about her life.

This past summer, Lily Rose, 16, was featured as a model for the Self-Evident Project, which is meant to represent those who don’t identify as being completely straight in their sexuality. Although this came as a surprise to many of her fans who follow her on social media, Depp revealed that he was not shocked by her decision.

“She’s got thousands of followers on social media, and they were all taken completely by surprise,” the actor stated. “But not me. I already knew because she tells me everything — she’s not afraid to say anything to me. We’re super-tight and I’m very proud of our relationship. Lily’s really together — she’s a sharp kid and one of the smartest human beings I have ever met.”

Following her work on the Self-Evident Project, iO Tillett Wright, a close friend of Lily’s, posted a photo of her and Lily Rose on Instagram that highlighted Lily Rose’s decision to come out about her sexuality. The image featured Lily Rose getting a piggyback ride on Wright’s shoulders with a fairly detailed caption.

“I’m so proud of my baby girl @lilyrose_depp. She decided she wanted to be in @selfevidentproject because she falls somewhere on the vast spectrum, and I couldn’t be happier to welcome her to the family,” Wright wrote alongside the image. “She’s a tiny gem of a good human. #prouduncle#weareyou.”

Apart from her sexuality, Depp went on to discuss how Lily Rose excels in other areas of life. In particular, Depp discussed her brilliance and how he always makes a point to be there for his kids whenever they need him, no matter what the circumstances may entail.

“She’s far surpassed myself there — and my friends, too!” he stated regarding his daughter’s intellect. “And, whatever she is doing, if she needs any advice, I’m there for her. Kids are going to make their own decisions, but I guess that the only thing you can do as a parent is to offer support. And I do.”

Meanwhile, Depp’s comments about his daughter follow what has proved to be a busy year for the veteran actor. In fact, along with the recent release of his newest movie, Black Mass, Depp joined his wife, Amber Heard, at the premiere of her latest film, The Danish Girl.

Speaking of his wife, Depp recently shared a few insights about what initially led to their mutual attraction. As it turns out, their attraction had nothing to do with outward appearance. According to Perez Hilton, Depp was initially drawn in by Heard’s love for music, which mirrors his own tastes.

“We connect on a lot of levels but the first things that really got me was she’s an aficionado of the blues,” Depp revealed in the interview. “I would play a song, some old obscure blues song and she knew what it was.”

Like Lily Rose, Depp went on to praise his wife for her intellect and stated that she is an avid reader.

“She’s very very literate. She’s a voracious reader as I have been so we connected on that as well. And she’s kind of brilliant,” he stated. “I’m a lucky man.”

Between Depp’s close relationship with Lily Rose, which leaves little to no room for secrets, and all the qualities he shares with his wife, it would indeed appear as there is no shortage of luck for the Hollywood star.
