WWE: Bayley Not Enthused About Getting Called Up From NXT

Bayley, the NXT Women’s Champion, is in no hurry to get called up to the main roster, according to Digital Spy.

In a recent interview with the site, the wrestler whose real name is Pamela Rose Martinez, expressed her desire to learn as much as possible at the developmental territory before eventually getting the call-up.

“I don’t know if the women’s title here is the key to the main roster, but I’m willing to be here as long as I possibly can and keep learning and keep getting better and just prepare more for when I do get the call for the main roster,” Bayley explained.

She assured the site she wasn’t “in any rush or anything, but it seems like if I hold this title that I could possibly be up there one day,” adding that Charlotte and Paige, two former NXT Women’s Champions, are currently on the main roster, so it’s a possibility.

Bayley continued.

“I just try to think — if I were to get called up tomorrow, I would literally see it as how we were a year-and-a-half ago in NXT, or two years ago. If we had to start all over again and build that trust with the office and the fans wanting to see us. If we had to build our stories all over again, I’m willing to do that to make it. If we could make WWE what NXT is now, as far as the women’s division goes, it’s worth it. I know those girls, everybody up there is willing to fight for every opportunity. If we have to start from the bottom again and slowly build it and build it, I think one day it’s possible that we can have another 30-minute Iron Woman match. Anything’s possible with the women here.”

It’s interesting that such a company player as Bayley would equate going to the main roster as “starting from the bottom,” something she clearly does when talking about making “WWE what NXT is now,” as far as the women are concerned.

Under ideal circumstances, the WWE call-up would be seen as a promotion, but that does not appear to be how Bayley looks at it, at the very least subconsciously.

Nevertheless, it’s pretty clear that Bayley doesn’t see WWE as a short-term prospect.

With the type of attitude that Martinez is displaying here, and with it known that she is eager to help with behind the scenes/production type issues, it isn’t unlikely that the self-proclaimed “Hugger” could have a career in Stamford that goes well beyond her stint in the ring.

She has already expressed a desire to help cultivate the up-and-coming talent of the NXT Women’s Division in previous interviews.

In an October interview with Rolling Stone, Bayley said that she really wanted “to work with Eva Marie, just because it seems like that’s what people want.”

A simple listen to crowd reaction (and the online IWC haters) makes one wonder who these “people” Bayley is referring to actually are, but it’s not unexpected that the champ would say that.

Eva Marie, one of the stars of Total Divas, reportedly has the support and enthusiasm of Vince McMahon and Kevin Dunn, so wanting to help with her development is a wise career move for Bayley if she wants to be with WWE for the long haul.

Unfortunately, WWE’s “Divas Revolution” seems to be on its last legs after a botched angle going into Survivor Series between old NXT favorites Paige and Charlotte, which resulted in a PPV match of fan indifference.

Perhaps Bayley is wise to stay in NXT for as long as possible. But what do you think, readers?
