Johnny Manziel Benched After Partying All Weekend

With Johnny Manziel benched after being caught partying all weekend long, the Cleveland Browns turn their attention back to Josh McCown, according to NBC Sports.

When it comes to talent, no one questions that Manziel has plenty of it. He has shown that when he was the star quarterback at Texas A&M. Manziel has also shown glimpses of that during his early career in the NFL. That is the reason why so many have clamored to see what he can do on the field once he secures himself a starting position.

The Browns gave Manziel that chance this season because their regular starting quarterback McCown has struggled to stay healthy. Cleveland head coach Mike Pettine gave him the job for the rest of the season after he had a tremendous showing against the Pittsburgh Steelers on November 15. Everyone was finally going to be able to see if Manziel can become the franchise quarterback that many projected him to be when he entered the NFL.

It now appears that we all have to wait even further. Videos surfaced over the weekend that showed Manziel partying in Austin during the Browns’ bye week. Rather than protecting his quarterback, Pettine did the right thing and publicly admonished Johnny for his behavior. The head coach stated that there is more to the quarterback position than what is on the field. Pettine had no choice but to turn back to McCown, who might not be 100 percent healthy.

Johnny Manziel Punished

Regardless of how the Browns quarterback is going to try to spin the story, Manziel is being punished by the Browns. Cleveland really needed him to step up into the role and help them finish a season in which they are currently sitting on a 2-8 record. They have no chance of catching up to the Cincinnati Bengals and are actually ranked behind the Baltimore Ravens, who have suffered through a ridiculous slew of injuries to their key players this season.

After repeated mistakes over the course of his young NFL career, this might be the last chance for Manziel in Cleveland. The Browns sound like they’re really disappointed in their former first-round draft pick. Some believe that they might be ready to move on. Manziel wasn’t just relegated to be the backup quarterback. He was actually all the way down the depth chart to the third quarterback position behind Austin Davis.

Johnny Manziel Replaced

Now that Manziel has screwed up another opportunity, the time might be right for a divorce. The Browns need to look in another direction for their quarterback of the future. McCown is a good placeholder, but Cleveland needs to find someone they can rely on for the next several year. Dynamic players, like Colin Kaepernick and Robert Griffin III, are more than likely going to be available next spring, while Paxton Lynch of the University of Memphis is likely going to be the first quarterback selected in the NFL Draft in 2016.

As for Manziel, a change of scenery might be needed. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is said to still be interested in the troubled 22-year-old. Learning from a future hall of fame quarterback like Tony Romo certainly could do wonders for Manziel. Johnny would also provide Dallas with their quarterback of the future for whenever Romo retires from the NFL.

Someone out there is going to give Manziel an undeserved second chance in the NFL.
