‘The Vampire Diaries’ Stars Paul Wesley, Candice Accola-King Compare Steroline With Stelena
Even if Nina Dobrev is no longer part of The Vampire Diaries Season 7, her character Elena Gilbert still holds a pivotal position in the show. Fanbolt recently had a chat with The Vampire Diaries stars Paul Wesley and Candice Accola-King about Stefan and Caroline’s relationship. As for King, Stefan is different when he was still with Elena.
“For viewers of the show that have seen Stefan in a relationship with Elena, he was very open. He did put her first. And that’s not what we’re really seeing now that these two characters come together. I think that’s kinda interesting, because it’s been all this hard work and all this build up. And sometimes, in real life, relationships either make sense or they don’t. If you have to really, really try really hard to make it work. Is it supposed to work?”
Wesley also added that in the episode that he directed, Steroline goes on a date “but it goes really sour.” In the second episode of The Vampire Diaries Season 7, it was revealed through a flash-forward scene that Caroline would end up engaged to Alaric in three years’ time. Apart from being Alaric’s fiancée, she is likewise having his babies. Nonetheless, fans rooting for Steroline can still hope for a happy ending according to Entertainment Weekly.
“Don’t panic just yet. Yes, Alaric is the one who put the ring on Caroline’s finger, but that doesn’t mean they’re living happily ever after. In an upcoming flash-forward, we’ll see that perhaps everything isn’t perfect between the couple, so there might be hope for Steroline yet.”
Apart from Steroline, another couple might soon take center stage in the vampire drama – Bamon. As per Fanbolt, Ian Somerhalder believes that Damon’s relationship with Bonnie is healthier than Delena’s.
“Bonnie. I think Elena makes him feel really good about himself. He’s just done a lot of things he shouldn’t have done. But ultimately it makes him happy and makes him feel like a man, and he loves her a lot. But Bonnie is this open-ended relationship that was really healthy for him.”
Somerhalder also thinks that Damon’s evolving because “he really has a soft spot for Bonnie.” In another interview with E! Online, Kat Graham revealed that she’s hoping for a possibility of romance between Damon and Bonnie.
However, executive producer Caroline Dries shunned the idea because viewers might not accept the idea of Damon moving on too quickly after what happened to Elena.
“The problem is that… he [Damon] is still so madly in love with her [Elena]. It would feel false for him to meet someone else and have sparks and fall in love. The viewers also wouldn’t embrace it; any girl who comes close to Damon gets clawed at with their opinions, so it’s not something we’re going to jump into as writers right away.”
In the penultimate episode of The Vampire Diaries Season 6, Kai did a spell that linked Bonnie and Elena’s lives. The spell meant that only one could live at a time, and as long as Bonnie was alive, Elena would remain asleep.
Elena’s exit was written that way to accommodate Dobrev’s possible return. Despite her decision to leave the show, producers and even CW President Mark Pedowitz said that Dobrev’s “welcome anytime she wants to come back.” Speculations are rife that Dobrev will return for the series finale.
