Derek Jeter Puts One Night Stand Gift Basket Rumor To Rest [Video]
Derek Jeter is ready to set the record straight about a rumor that has been following him for years now. Jeter sat down for an interview on the first episode of Undeniable with Joe Buck and finally addressed the speculation that he’s the type of egomaniac to give a girl a gift-basket the morning after a one night stand, Us Weekly reports.
According to US Weekly, the rumor all started way back in 2011, when an article in the New York Post claimed that the retired New York Yankee shortstop hires a car to take girls home after one night stands. The article claimed that he would leave a gift basket for the girls on the backseat of the car. To top it all off, the gift baskets would contain Derek Jeter memorabilia.
“It’s a dumb story. And you really have to be dumber to believe it,” Jeter said. “But they believe it!…You guys really believe that? My own memorabilia, I’m signing?”
Jeter had avoided addressing the rumors for years, but decided to finally talk about them because he felt that enough was enough.“I don’t address them because once you address it, you have to address every single rumor that comes out,” Jeter said.
“And then if one time you don’t, they automatically assume it’s true. So I just chose not to address any rumors out there.”
Jeter has been addressing lots of rumors lately, though. Most recently, he denied claims that he backed out of a deal to promote Frigo, a Swedish underwear company, because the company also hired 50 Cent to be a brand ambassador. As this article in the New York Daily News reports, there was a rumor that Derek Jeter said that 50 Cent’s association with the brand would make it too “urban.”
But Derek Jeter has said that those claims are “categorically false.”
“As a major investor, current stockholder and lender to the Company, I am disgusted by (Company CEO Mathias) Ingvarsson’s decision to make these false allegations against me in the press, instead of attempting to work out our business dispute in private,” Jeter said via the statement.
TMZ also reported that Frigo has sued Derek Jeter for $5 million for reneging on his contract to promote the underwear brand.
“I facilitated the introductory meeting between 50 Cent and the company, so it makes absolutely no sense that I would object to 50 Cent being a Frigo brand ambassador or think that 50 Cent is ‘too urban’ for the brand,” said Jeter.
Jeter also said that he never agreed to be the brand ambassador for Frigo, and the legal documents that they signed would reflect that.
It looks like the news of Jeter’s reported comments seems to have offended 50 Cent, aka Curtis Jackson.
“Wow, guess I’m not a Yankees fan anymore,” the New York born rapper wrote in a caption on Instagram under a picture of Derek Jeter. “LETS GO METS! Man you can’t trust nobody these days. smh.”
Derek Jeter also recently confirmed that he is officially off the dating market, anyway. He casually dropped the news that he is engaged to Sports Illustrated model Hannah Davis in a blog post on his website, The Players’ Tribune, as he was discussing being a new pet owner.“I had no idea what I was in for as a new dog owner,” he wrote. “He was a Christmas gift last year from my fiancée, whose family had Mastiffs growing up. I’ve never owned a pet in my life.”
According to Us Weekly, Hannah Davis and Derek Jeter have been seeing each other since 2012. The former New York Yankees star allegedly proposed to Hannah Davis last year, but hadn’t confirmed that the two were engaged until recently.
An inside source has claimed that both Jeter and Davis are head over heels in love.
“Derek is totally in love with her.” the reported inside source told Us Weekly. “He thinks she’s beautiful, sweet, and sexy! All of Derek’s friends are jealous that his fiancée is so beautiful.”
