Miley Cyrus’ new music video for her single “Lighter” from the experimental album Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz is out, and it is a totally trippy affair!
The 22-year-old pop star shared her psychedelic new music video on Facebook a few hours ago, where it has already been viewed more than 400,000 times by her fans at the time of this report.
The video for “Lighter” comes just after Miley Cyrus kicked off her Dead Petz tour – now renamed “The Milky Milky Milk Tour” – Thursday night in Chicago, where she surprised concert-goers by sporting a purple wig, fake breasts and a prosthetic phallus, among many other equally outrageous outfits. But, then again, that is something we have come to expect from the former Hannah Montana star, have we not?
The rainbow-colored music video, where Miley can be seen smoking and singing with an unrecognizable second figure, was co-directed by Cyrus and the Oklahoma-based surrealist group Flaming Lips’ frontman, Wayne Coyne. Best described as a song which celebrates the power of “lightness,” or rather the acid-induced hallucinatory state of euphoria, the music video contains psychedelic projections by LA-based multimedia artist, and fellow Smiler, Jen Stark.
Miley Cyrus shared the video with her 46 million followers on Facebook with the following caption.
“F*** yeah! After our 1st show in Chicago (which was totally turnt) we loved seeing y’all singing along to all the Dead Petz jamsssss but seemed like this one was a fan favorite!!!!! For all of you who can’t be with us in Detroit tonight and of course for all of you who will, here is the official Lighter music video directed by me and Wayne Coyne featuring Jen Stark’s bad a** animated kaleidoscopic projections!!!!!”
Meanwhile, Freep reported that Miley Cyrus served up two-plus hours of far-out, psychedelic burlesque inside the cozy 2,200-capacity Fillmore Detroit Saturday night, which was the second stop on an eight-city club tour. The tour will also see Miley and Flaming Lips visit Washington, New York City, Philadelphia and Vancouver, before finally bringing the hypnotic, if not completely freaky, tour to an end in Los Angeles on December 19.
“My birthday is in two days,” the soon-to-be 23-year-old Miley said early on to the people who had come to attend her show in Detroit last night. “So I’m a little drunk.”
The concert saw Miley Cyrus dress up in various outfits again, much like what she did on the opening night in Chicago, with some of the more prominent costumes being that of a spaceman, a crescent moon, a bonneted baby, and even a slab of butter.
Very much like their pop hero, concert-goers had also arrived in their own free-spirited outfits, including girls in animal onesies and, as Cyrus pointed out at one stage, “a guy in a thong and suspenders.”

The 23-track experimental album from which “Lighter” is taken, was released free online immediately after Miley Cyus finished hosting the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards in L.A. on Aug. 30, and has since gone on to receive mixed reviews. Cyrus has often celebrated her friendship with Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne, often saying in the past that they work on the same wavelength.
“I am 100 percent in love with Wayne, and Wayne is in love with me, but it’s nothing sexual in any way. That would be the grossest,” Miley once said in an interview.
We’ll have to wait and see if her latest tour is a hit, but going by her first two performances, and now the response to Miley Cyrus’ new music video “Lighter,” it it quite clear that Smilers can’t wait to have more of her.
