First Photo Of Angelina Jolie As Maleficent In ‘Sleeping Beauty’ Remake Released

Angelina Jolie is already turning into Maleficent, the evil villain from Disney’s classic Sleeping Beauty. The actress has already had her horns fitted for the new movie and Disney has just released the first photo of Jolie in costume.

Jolie said:

“It’s a really great script. I’m having a lot of fun. I’ve already got my horns fitted. My kids are very happy.”

Entertainment Weekly reports that the new film, Maleficent, will focus more on the back story behind Jolie’s character. Why did Maleficent turn against the fairy-tale kingdom? Why did put Princess Aurora under a spell?

Jolie assured Sleeping Beauty fans that the new movie isn’t anti-princess, it’s just a new spin on the classic tale.

Jolie said:

“It’s not anti-princess, but it’s the first time they’re looking at this epic woman…. I hope in the end you see a woman who is capable of being many things, and just because she protects herself and is aggressive, it doesn’t mean she can’t have other [warmer] qualities. You have to figure out the puzzle of what she is.”

Elle Fanning will play Princess Aurora in the new movie. Robert Stromberg, who has won two art direction Oscars for Avatar and Alice and Wonderland, will be directing the new movie.
