Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes have released a new music video for their song, “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” after spending the last week heavily teasing fans.
As Hollywood Life reports, the video did not disappoint as it features both Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello in a very dramatic story . The two walk through a dark and desolate landscape, but while both seem to be moving their legs, neither of them can get to each other. In the background, a wild storm rages. The storm is a metaphor for a damaged relationship, with the rain and snow representing the many issues that couples often face.
Camila Cabello describes the song as a “conversation between two people in a relationship where it’s dying, but nobody wants to admit that it’s dying.”
The duet “I Know What You Did Last Summer” dropped at the same time as Handwritten (Revisited) — an updated album for Shawn Mendes — did on November 20. The Canadian singer released his debut album Handwritten in April, 2015 featuring the song “Stitches,” a tune that quickly became a hit. This compilation includes four new tracks – including the duet between Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello – and four live-recordings of previously-released songs.

As for Camila Cabello, she is from American girl group Fifth Harmony. Originally founded on The X Factor in 2012, Fifth Harmony released their debut album, Reflection, in February of 2015. That album, which the band is giving away for free according to the Inquisitr, spawned the platinum song, “Worth It,” featuring Kid Ink. The group is currently working on their sophomore studio album.
Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes came together thanks to Taylor Swift. According to MTV , it was back stage at Taylor Swift’s 1989 World Tour that the song “I Know What You Did Last Summer” came together. Shawn Mendes, who got his start by posting pop song covers on the video sharing site Vinee, was an opening performer on the tour.

Shawn Mendes found time to collaborate with Camila Cabello on the song despite both artists’ busy schedule, the “Stitches” singer explained.
“We were just backstage. There were like 100 people in my dressing room at the time, and it was madness back there, but I had this guitar and I was just jamming out, and we basically wrote a pre-chorus and a chorus in like 30 minutes.”
The two singers then realized that they had a hit on their hands. “We planned to go into the studio, and it was like an 11-hour studio session where we finished writing the song,” Shawn Mendes said.
With the release of their debut, it is apparent that Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello have a lot of chemistry, which is why reports of them being more than just collaborators have popped up frequently. While neither Shawn Mendes nor Camila Cabello will confirm the reports, the two artists are very complimentary of each other.
“Working with Camila was amazing,” Shawn Mendes said. “We wrote this song backstage so spontaneously and we can’t wait for everyone to hear it.”
Camila Cabello, who reportedly falls for the “bad boy” type , returned the praise for her song-writing partner. “I love storytelling in song writing, and Shawn and I have awesome creative chemistry, so this project was so exciting.”
The two have yet to publicly announce that they are dating, but are increasingly flirtatious around each other. When Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello attended the iHeart Radio Music Festival in Las Vegas last weekend, they walked the red carpet together. As E! Online reports, the two were well-versed in flirty banter . When told they would make a cute couple, Camila Cabello responded coyly.
“We can’t do that! I mean Spanish and Canadian don’t really mix,” Camil Cabello said. “We actually hate each other in real life. We can’t stand each other.”
Both in real life and in music, young singers Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes are proving that they have a lot of chemistry together.
