Johnny Depp Talks Lily Rose Depp Growing Up, Finds It ‘Disturbing’
Johnny Depp has admitted that while he’s really proud of his daughter, Lily-Rose Depp, he also find it “really disturbing” watching her grow up and work on modelling campaigns in a professional capacity.
The world-renowned actor, who earlier this year thrilled audiences in Black Mass, confessed during an interview with the Daily Mail that he still can’t quite come to terms with the fact that his daughter is all grown up, and wears make-up.
Lily-Rose Depp, who is now 16-years-old and who Johnny Depp fathered during his long-term relationship with Vanessa Paradis, has already appeared in fashion campaigns for both Karl Lagerfeld and Chanel.
In rather adorable and over-protective fashion 52-year-old Johnny Depp admitted that watching his daughter find success so quickly has been quite an adjustment.
Depp explained, “It’s such a funny thing when you see your daughter transitioning from your baby, your little girl, to suddenly being a young woman.”
“She’s been snatched up by Karl Lagerfeld — which is a coincidence, as he spotted her mother when she was the same age, too — and when I see her with make-up and all that stuff, it’s really disturbing, because she’s a very beautiful girl, and it’s all happening so fast.”
Lily-Rose’s burgeoning career, which, in addition to modeling, has seen her star in two films, Tusk and Yoga Hosers, the latter of which Johnny Depp also appeared in as a man-hunting monster, has taken her father by surprise. Not because she doesn’t possess the natural talent to excel in both of these professions. Far from it.
It’s just that it’s all happening so early. Depp added, “What’s happening to Lily-Rose is something that I didn’t expect to happen this early, that’s for sure!”
However, despite the fact that Depp is struggling to watch his daughter adjust into adulthood, he still has a great relationship with her.
Speaking about when Lily-Rose revealed she was “sexually fluid” back in August, which translated as she didn’t recognise herself as 100 percent heterosexual, Johnny Depp revealed that even though a lot of the world reacted uproariously to the news, he already knew because she tells hims everything.
“She’s got thousands of followers on social media, and they were all taken completely by surprise,” Depp declared. “But not me. I already knew because she tells me everything — she’s not afraid to say anything to me. We’re super-tight and I’m very proud of our relationship.”
Depp couldn’t help but gush about his daughter, adding “Lily’s really together — she’s a sharp kid and one of the smartest human beings I have ever met. She’s far surpassed myself there — and my friends, too!”
And just to prove how much of an all-round swell father he is, Johnny Depp explained that no matter any decision she makes, or whichever direction her life heads, he is always going to be supportive and there for Lily-Rose.
“Whatever she is doing,” Depp continued,”if she needs any advice, I’m there for her. Kids are going to make their own decisions, but I guess that the only thing you can do as a parent is to offer support. And I do.”
Since this split, Johnny Depp began a relationship with his co-star in The Rum Diary, Amber Heard, which resulted in the pair marrying in 2015.
Meanwhile, Vanessa Paradis concluded her relationship with Benjamin Biolay, a French singer, in May 2015 after three years of dating.
