‘Arrow’ Newcomer Echo Kellum Explains To Fans (And Shippers) Why Oliver And Felicity Are The Perfect Couple

As the current season of Arrow continues to unfold, it is no secret that Curtis Holt (Echo Kellum) will start to play a larger role as the season wears on. In fact, not only is the character eventually going to become Mr. Terrific, but he is also growing closer to Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) and recently met Oliver (Stephen Amell) for the very first time. With that in mind, Kellum recently sat down with ET Online, and discussed why he thinks Oliver and Felicity (Olicity) are perfect for each other.

In particular, the newcomer explained how watching their relationship develop has helped him work on the relationships in his own life.

“I learn how to have better relationships in my real life by watching those characters on TV,” Kellum, a self-confirmed fan of the show, stated. “If they can get past the issues that they’re dealing with, then I can stop complaining about there being no French toast in the morning.”

Along with learning from how Felicity and Oliver interact with each other, Kellum also shared how it is nice to see their relationship break from the norms of society. This includes Felicity and Oliver making things work despite coming from different backgrounds.

“I don’t have to have a woman who knows how to cook because Felicity doesn’t know how to cook to be amazing,” he stated. “She still kills it in every other aspect and I love seeing these two people, from two totally different places come together and just make it work. That’s what you need in every relationship and they’re doing it in aces.”

Meanwhile, in regard to the future of Olicity, the events that have occurred in the last few episodes have certainly complicated things a bit for Felicity and Oliver. This mainly has to do with the re-appearance of Felicity’s ex-boyfriend, Ray Palmer, whom Team Arrow saved from the clutches of Damien Darhk in the last episode.

With Palmer back on the scene, it isn’t clear how Felicity will deal with all of the past emotions that are sure to arise about her former flame. Luckily, Felicity’s mother, Donna Smoak (Charlotte Ross) is firmly in support of her daughter’s relationship with Oliver. Will this be enough for Felicity and Oliver to move forward in their relationship?

Ross recently told Comic Book that Donna just wants Felicity to be happy and to settle down with the right guy. “I think Donna has been wanting to see her daughter happy and in love for a long time, even down to helping her get a new wardrobe just to find the right man,” she said.

At the same time, Ross also revealed that her character is very supportive of Felicity’s relationship with Oliver, and how Donna is the “ultimate shipper.”

“I think one of the reasons she cares for Oliver so much is that Donna sees how much vulnerable and deeply Felicity cares for Oliver,” Ross explained. “I think that touches Donna in a really deep way, so as the fans would say, I think Donna is their ultimate shipper. She really is happy and really is excited about it.”

With her mother’s blessing, is it likely that fans are set to see Oliver finally propose to Felicity in a coming episode? Although Palmer’s appearance complicates things, Melty is reporting that Palmer might be set to connect with Sara in the launch of Legends of Tomorrow. If this happens, then it would certainly free up Felicity to finally get engaged to Oliver.

The next episodes of Arrow are set to air Wednesday night on The CW.
