Joseph Griffin: Dad Films Entire Las Vegas Trip With GoPro, Doesn’t Realize It Is In Selfie Mode
Joseph Griffin was so excited to film his Las Vegas trip with his wife using his new GoPro camera his son bought him. However, there was one small thing he did not think to check as he was shooting the footage…the camera was on selfie mode!
Joseph’s son Evan Griffin, from Balbriggan, gave the GoPro, along with a selfie stick, to his parents so they could film the trip they were going on to Las Vegas for his mother’s birthday. Unfortunately, Evan failed to explain to his dad how to use the camera, and he shot the video with it looking at him instead of the beautiful scenery. Not only did Joseph keep the GoPro in selfie mode, he also failed to put its waterproof case on before he took a swim in the pool, basically frying the brand new camera.

“They went for my mam’s birthday so I gave it [the GoPro] to them,” Evan explained to the Irish news website Joe.ie. “All the footage is only from the first day ’cause my dad later took it swimming without the waterproof case and fried it so missed out on the Grand Canyon and everything, haha.”
Obviously amused, Evan later shared the four and a half minute video clip on YouTube titling it “An Irishman in Vegas.” In the description of the video, Evan wrote, “So… Gave my Dad my GoPro while he was in Las Vegas, I did not, however, instruct him on how to use it, so my dad being my dad, and a culchie, didn’t know which way to point the f****** thing…” Joseph Griffin can be heard describing the first part of his trip, detailing his surroundings. “Aww, look at that,” he says in the video. “I think the [Grand Canyon] is that way.” He later threw in a very dad-like “Vegas, baby.” “There’s the Trump tower, same color as his hair,” he adds, while the viewer is actually seeing him, shirtless, standing on the balcony of his hotel room.

“This is the inside of the Paris, where they have the Eiffel Tower,” he said, not knowing we are still watching him stroll through Las Vegas.
Since Evan uploaded the video on November 13, it has generated nearly 6,500,000 views and has gained international attention, even prompting a response fro GoPro themselves.
“Classic dad move!,” the company commented. “What happens in Vegas, doesn’t always stay in Vegas.”
Viewers got a huge kick out of the video, many leaving comments similar to GoPro’s.
“Does it get more dad than this?! Haha,” chaosinorderrr wrote in the video’s comments section.

“A Dad with a GoPro is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you gonna get,” wrote aussietvone.
“LMFAO. It can only happen to an Irishman (no offense),” Tony stone wrote. “You should have given him a phone and asked him to take sefies! That way he may taken some great shots of the sights!”
While many viewers thought the video was hilarious, there were others who insisted the entire clip was fake and scripted.
“100% scripted and a desperate plea for social media attention,” 19karl16 accused. “Its actually comical how some people can be so gullible. This whole story does not add up and is so transparent. Fair play tho. Its working.”
“this is so f****** fake, why use a selfie stick if you aren’t gonna film yourself?” added nyphonejacks.
