Oprah Interviews the Kardashians: Kim’s Reasons For Ending 72-Day Marriage
Oprah Winfrey’s long-awaited sit-down with the Kardashian clan Sunday on OWN’s Oprah’s Next Chapter yielded some intimate details about the celebrity family with Kris Jenner answering accusations of “pimping” out her family, Kourtney’s marriage fears, and Kim’s answer to her 72-day marriage’s dissolution, an answer that reportedly “floored” Oprah prior to the interview.
Oprah’s sit-down with Kourtney, Kim, Khloé and Rob primarily involved the Kardashian kids’ relationships. Kourtney, pregnant with baby number two with boyfriend Scott Disick, was asked about her hesitation to marry. She revealed that it has nothing to do with boyfriend Disick of their family – it actually has more to do with Kris Jenner’s divorce from Robert Kardashian.
“Maybe I’m kind of scared of marriage because of that,” Kourtney confessed. “I’d like to [get married] someday for my children…but I know I’m just as committed if I’m married or not married.”
Accusations run rampant that mom-ager Kris Jenner is pimping out and exploiting her family for fame and money. The Kardashian clan has vehemently denied this whenever the accusation pops up, and they answered it yet again with Oprah. “What you see on our show is 22 minutes of an entire day or a week. All of what you see is exactly what’s going on,” Kris said.
Now the topic on everyone’s minds – what were Kim’s reasons for walking out of her marriage to Kris Humphries after just 72 days?
Kim answered that the divorce left her in a “deep depression” that almost caused her to walk away from the spotlight. “I was in such a deep depression I thought I was going to back away from it all,” said Kardashian. “You know when you just have that feeling that he’s the one? When we moved in I had the feeling he was not the one.” Was the marriage a publicity stunt? “If anything, the tough decision to end that relationship was such a risk of losing ratings, losing my fan base, but I had to take that risk for myself,” said Kardashian, denying that claim.
Kim finished that the divorce has made her a stronger person – the answer that “floored” Oprah. “I’ve obviously made plenty of mistakes in my lifetime, but I’m not the type to sit and beat myself up over it,” said Kardashian. “If a real lesson was learned, I’m so okay with having experienced that.”
“That is so perfect I could weep,” replied Winfrey.
“I want babies. I want my forever, and I want my fairytale,” said Kim.
Oprah replied asking if Kanye West was the new fairytale, but alas, we have to wait until part 2 of the interview (airs June 24th) to get the answer to that.
What do you think of Kim’s divorce reasons? Justified or weak sauce?
