Martin Sheen Gave Charlie Sheen The Strength To Come Forward
Through his diagnosis, and now his public admission, Charlie Sheen has gotten strength from his father, The West Wing’s Martin Sheen. For four years, Charlie Sheen has been grappling with his diagnosis and found himself “very depressed” at his prospects.
According to the Inquisitr, Charlie Sheen has just ended a chapter of keeping his HIV status hidden and has started a new one, where he will be fielding questions from the public, the press, and all of those partners he famously entertained, including the women he called his “goddesses.” He will no longer be paying extortion money to those who threatened to share his secret, but he will likely have to provide money for those he put at risk without disclosing he had the virus.

Hollywood Life is reporting that Martin Sheen was a huge force in helping Charlie Sheen out of the dark hole of depression after his HIV diagnosis.
“Charlie was very depressed after he received the news about his HIV positive status. It wasn’t until he had a lengthy discussion with his father, Martin Sheen, that he chose to pull himself together for his kids who would be better off knowing they had a stable father in their life. It was an obviously huge wake up call,” a source explained to Hollywood Life.
Charlie Sheen admits that before and after his diagnosis, he was suffering. At first, it was symptoms of the virus, and then crushing depression, which Martin Sheen was able to aid.
“[I]t started with crushing headaches and sweating the bed 2-3 nights — I thought it was over…. It’s a hard three letters to absorb, you know? It’s a turning point in one’s life.”

The Huffington Post UK revealed that Martin Sheen has known for a while about his son’s diagnosis, but fans just took his expressed concern for Charlie’s health and life to be about his substance abuse and not his HIV status.
“What he was going through at that time, we were powerless to do much. Except to pray for him and lift him up.”
Martin Sheen, who also battled substance abuse and health issues, including a massive heart attack, has always had Charlie Sheen’s back, despite much of his anti-social behavior.
“But I know what hell he’s living in. I’ve had psychotic episodes in public. One of them was on camera – the opening scene of Apocalypse Now. So I know what Charlie is going through. And when you do something like that, that is out of control, that’s the most difficult thing. You have to have courage.”
But Charlie Sheen will have to continue to battle demons and is now living closer to the truth, despite the many mistakes of his past.
“Today, Charlie Sheen admitted that he had continued with his reckless lifestyle in the light of his diagnosis, blaming depression and ‘karmic chaos’ brought on by his diagnosis.”
Luckily, according to Charlie Sheen, the threats of extortion end today, as Sheen put it all out there on the Today show. Charlie Sheen has the support of his father, and much of his family, to move on and hopefully stay well.
