One of the many exciting developments in the upcoming season of Outlander is all of the new characters that are set to be introduced. With that in mind, a lot speculation has surrounded the casting of Claire’s (Caitriona Balfe) daughter, Briana. While a number of names have been mentioned to play the role, fans were recently excited about the prospect of Sophie Turner ( Game of Thrones ) taking on the part.
However, much to the disappointment of many fans, Turner recently sat down with Entertainment Weekly and put to rest any rumors that she will be a part of Outlander in Season 2. In fact, not only did she deny that she would be playing Claire’s daughter, but she also admitted that she has never even watched the show.
“Somebody mentioned [the role] to me when I was on a red carpet somewhere, that I’d make a great Brianna, and I think [star Sam Heughan] retweeted it or something… So people started talking like I was in it. I’ve never seen the show. I’m sure it’s great, but I’m loyal to my one true love!”
The idea that Turner would possibly consider taking on the role of Brianna was first brought up by a Twitter user, AnglophileTV, who wrote: “If she wasn’t so busy with #GameOfThrones would Sophie Turner make a good #BrainnaFraser? She is so striking!”
Although Heughan seemed to agree when he retweeted the message, it is now apparent that Turner is far too busy with Game of Thrones to be involved in another TV show. Further, the young actress is also set to appear in two upcoming films, including X-Men: Apocalypse, as Jean Grey, and Mary Shelley’s Monster, where she will play Mary Shelley.
Given her busy TV and movie schedule, and her recent comments, fans will not be seeing Turner cast as Brianna in Outlander .
Meanwhile, although fans are still eagerly waiting to find out who will be playing Brianna in Season 2, they should be excited about all of the awards the show has won for its first season.
With that in mind, Heughan recently shared a heartfelt message to all of Outlander‘s dedicated fans during RingCon 2015. According to Scotland Now , Heughan thanked fans for all of their support through the first season, which has turned into real success for the time traveling series.
“Our fans have been amazingly supportive even from the beginning really, we’ve won a terrific amount of fan awards,” Heughan stated. There are countless things that our fans have got together and done for us.”
These fan voted awards include Heughan being crowned as Radio Times SciFi Champion 2015, in which he beat out some of the biggest names in game, including Peter Capaldi ( Doctor Who ), Colin O’Donoghue and Lana Parrilla ( Once Upon A Time ), and Eliza Taylor-Cotter ( The 100’s ).
At the same time, Heughan, Balfe, and Tobias Menzies all won awards in the categories of Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Supporting Actor in Entertainment Weekly’s EWwy Awards. Additionally, the show itself took home the award for Best Drama, gaining over 80 percent of the total fan vote.
In speaking of winning awards that are voted by fans, Heughan went on the explain that these types of awards mean the most for him. “The awards that mean something are the ones voted for by you guys, so thank you very much for your support,” he told fans.
In addition to all of the awards they have won so far, Heughan was nominated for a People’s Choice Awards 2016, which is still open for voting.
You can catch Sophie as Sansa Stark when Game of Thrones returns in May 2016. Season 2 of Outlander is also set to return in the spring of 2016, but no premiere date has been set.
