A Florida teacher was arrested for allegedly having sex with her 14-year-old male student on multiple occasions during the past school year. Irene Khan, 32, denies the allegations but West Melbourne police officers were able to secure Khan’s incarceration in the alleged teacher-student sex scandal based largely upon text messages, according to the Huffington Post. The male student wrote his cell number of the teacher’s chalkboard to entice a female classmate to call him but his teacher dialed the digits instead, the Brevard Times reports.
According to police reports, the student claims the pair of unlikely alleged lovers met at various local hotels, the teacher’s car and her apartment to have sex on a “number of occasions.” Before exiting from the initial short interview with West Melbourne police officers, Khans maintained that her relationship with the male student was not sexual in nature. Transcripts of text messages from Khan included in court document note phrases such as “I love you” were exchanged and show the teacher asking the student for a kiss.
Khan was a science teacher at Imagine School in West Melbourne. The sex-related felony charges levied against Khan include sexual battery while in a position of authority as an agent of the government, enticing a victim to engage in sexual activity, lewd or lascivious battery via sexual activity and lewd or lascivious molestation.
West Melbourne Police spokesman Steve Wilkinson told the Huffington post that the Khan proceedings are the first case of an alleged sexual relationship between a teacher and a student in the town and that the charges are being taken “very seriously.”
