Everyone knows by now that Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd are back together again and still going strong. The Dancing with the Stars pro dancers also have a great sense of humor. That was evident when they took part in an undercover operation for a segment on ABC’s Good Morning America on Tuesday. America, meet Bob and Ronda!
The couple took part in an advanced theater dance studio called New York’s Steps on Broadway. However, Peta and Maks were not recognizable as they were in disguise. According to Yahoo News, the duo first went to the makeup room to do a bit of a makeover to mold them into Bob and Ronda and to appear about 30 years older than they really are.
In fact, Chmerkovskiy said in the GMA interview that he thought they would be heading to an older people’s class, not a room full of younger students who were actually advanced dancers. The pros walked in looking like a middle-aged couple, thanks to their clever disguises. Instead of blending in, they stood out even more than they thought they would.
Maksim had put on a little weight thanks to some padding around his middle. He also wore a red headband, dark-rimmed glasses, and some added gray in his beard. Peta joked that he was “too much man.” Her guy agreed.

Although Peta didn’t have any extra weight added to her, she did don a short black wig and less makeup than usual. As shown in the clip, everyone seemed to be staring at Maks as he struggled to do some basic stretching with his belly padding in the way. They were also looking at Murgatroyd as she tried to keep up with the other female dancers. Her clumsiness was humorous knowing how professional she really is. Even Maksim said that it was hard to keep a straight face the whole time she was out there messing up her dance moves. According to Peta, it wasn’t very easy to not be the pro dancer that she is.
“I was trying not to laugh at the people who were laughing at me. It was kind of hard to be off beat actually.”
All of a sudden the pair had had enough and broke out in their usual dance routine, surprising everyone in the room. They finally recognized that they had been fooled by the undercover dancers. The cheers and shocked faces said it all as they realized it was Maksim and Peta the whole time.
It was all in good fun, and the other dancers in the studio were totally thrilled to have taken part in this endeavor. They got to dance alongside both Chmerkovskiy and Murgatroyd, which made it all worthwhile. What did Peta think about the whole experience?
“I was half embarrassed, half having the time of my life.”
Maksim Chmerkovskiy loves to surprise his fans every once in a while. He just recently made an 82-year-old super fan’s day by making a surprise appearance and giving her a big hug and kiss, according to People. It looked like he enjoyed the meeting just as much as she did.
This dancing pair has had their relationship followed publicly since they have been dating on again, off again since 2012. It looks like they are more on now, and they seem to be stronger than ever. They were quite cute together in this undercover project making jokes back and forth and poking fun at each other. In fact, Maksim mentioned that he still had the hots for his lady even disguised as Ronda. He told her that he was staring at her the whole time. They even sealed it with a kiss.
It’s great to see them on screen even though they are not on Dancing with the Stars. Chmerkovskiy has said that he is not coming back to the show, and Murgatroyd is absent from this current season. They have both been taking part in Sway: A Dance Trilogy with a few fellow pro dancers, including Maksim’s brother, Val Chmerkovskiy.
