Why Xbox One Shooter Fans Don’t Need to Transfer To PlayStation 4

While many claim PS4 is the future of shooter gaming, Xbox One proves that this isn’t the case. Never mind Call of Duty: Black Ops 3,Star Wars: Battlefront, and Destiny exclusives with the PlayStation 4. Xbox One has the future of the first person shooter genre tied to their console.

We don’t want to generalize, but for the longest time, first person shooter players have always stuck with Xbox 360 and Xbox One, thanks to the phenomenal first-person shooter titles that Microsoft has gained exclusivity for. PlayStation 4 has been the choice for other genres, like RPGs. But while Halo and Gears of War continue to keep users on the Xbox One console, the hottest first person shooter titles of this generation are shifting to the PlayStation 4, thanks to performance and exclusives that PlayStation 4 hold with the titles.

PlayStation group marketing manager Lauren Bradley tells IGN that they are expecting more fans of the shooter genre to switch to the PlayStation 4, thanks especially to the upcoming Star Wars: Battlefront.

“This generation, the shooter audience is tending to switch over to PS4 so we’ve got high expectations for Star Wars: Battlefront around both launch and into next year.”

It also shows how much Sony believes these assertions since their marketing deals with Destiny, Star Wars: Battlefront, and Call of Duty: Black Ops III are very solid. Previously, Call of Duty had exclusive deals with the Xbox One but this summer, Black Ops III transferred the exclusive DLCs to PlayStation 4 users.

Regardless of PlayStation 4’s assertions, they have yet to show any proof to substantiate their claim. Tech Times reports that a lot of PlayStation players claim the shift of the shooter fans to the PlayStation 4 primarily because of the performance of the PlayStation 4’s console and the controller.

But Xbox One is not one bit worried. In terms of title variety, in fact, Aaron Greeenberg of Xbox One makes sense, saying that if you’re a first-person shooter fan, Xbox One will still give you the most options.

“If you look at what are the most popular games in the industry; well, today, the number one genre is shooters. So if you want to play Halo and Gears of War and Call of Duty and you want to play Battlefront, you’re only going to be able to do that on Xbox One. And so, we feel like we’ll continue to be where more of the core shooter fans continue to play. We’ll continue to be where most of the multiplayer gaming continues to happen.”

In terms of console performance, Xbox One is also trying to up their ante with the upcoming New Xbox One Experience. Players who are starting to experience the New Xbox One Experience are even testifying that the NXOE is twice as fast as the regular PlayStation 4 user interface. In a report byGame Pur, YouTuber actually a wolf puts the PlayStation 4 UI beside the New Xbox One Experience interface side by side and notes how much better the NXOE performs. Take note that the New Xbox One Experience tested in this video is still in its beta form so expect more updates and better performance when the official NXOE version comes out this month.

While PlayStation 4 users are also saying that the shift of the shooter fans to the PlayStation 4 is because of the PlayStation 4 controller, this may not be the case with the new Xbox One Elite controller dominating the gaming scene.

Reports are just coming in that Xbox One Elite controllers are already sold out in most local and online retailers. When the Elite controller was first announced, people were skeptical about shelling more than $70 for a wireless controller. But as reviews pour in about the performance of the Xbox One Elite controller, shouldn’t PlayStation 4 feel more threatened?
