‘Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice’ Star Jesse Eisenberg Claims His Character Is ‘Not A Silly Villainous Character’
Based on everything that has been released so far, it is clear the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice film is going to be different from any Batman or Superman movie that has been released in recent years. Along with an aged Batman and a Superman that has become god-like, the film will also feature a unique take on the iconic villain, Lex Luthor, and his son, Alexander.
With that in mind, Jessie Eisenberg, whom fans assume plays Lex (but there have been reports suggesting he plays Alexander) in the movie, recently sat down with Vulture and discussed just how different his version of Luthor is going to be.
“There is this trove of stuff about this guy. A lot of it’s repetitive, like he always winds up on the roof of his building giving some faux benevolent talk about how he’s going to change the city,” Eisenberg stated. “It’s fun to take that campy cartoony stuff and try to put it into a real person and try to reconcile the two.”At the same time, Eisenberg also told MTV that his character in Batman v Superman is not the usual villain archetype and how the tone of the movie has influenced how he portrays Superman’s main nemesis.
“There’s an emotional core to the character. It’s not a silly villainous character. It is an entirely different thing. Also, the tone of that [Superman] movie is so different,” he explained in the interview. “Like, that movie wouldn’t be made now. Like, the way we expect movies to be now is to have some kind of — I mean, it’s probably for the best — there’s some kind of psychological accuracy. That the person is coming from a place probably diagnosable in some way.”
Meanwhile, with the release of the movie still a ways off, producers are already going to great lengths in promoting Eisenberg’s character. In fact, Fortune magazine recently published a fictional article about Luthor’s company, LexCorp, detailing its up and coming CEO, Alexander Joseph Luthor, Jr.
The article describes Luthor as being a charitable man, and how LexCorps is one of the top charitable companies in the country, right behind Wayne Enterprises. “It’s not a competition,” Luthor told the outlet. “Besides, I can’t hold a candle to those guys in the debauched billionaire playboy department!”
While Luthor went on to state that his company was focused on the quality of its products over its charitable donations, he also stated how his company was getting ready to release a product that would change the world.
“It’s about safety. This is a product that will protect you, and everyone, from threats you don’t even know about yet,” he stated. “I don’t want to scare anybody… much. But there are a lot of threats out there, and they’re here today.”
While these fictional comments are certainly a great way to promote the film, they also offer a glimpse at the storyline in the movie. Along with this mysterious product that has worldwide implications, his comments reveal the level of connection between LexCorp and Wayne Enterprises. Additionally, it’s clear that Luthor is offering some kind of alternative to Superman in keeping the peace with whatever product his company is making.
At the same time, producers have also created a Twitter account for Lex Luthor to help promote the upcoming movie. While Luthor has been particularly active on the account, he has yet to reveal any major spoilers concerning the movie. That said, fans should keep an eye on him as the premiere date for the movie gets closer.Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. The film is scheduled to hit theaters everywhere on March 25, 2016.
