‘Outlander’ Stars Sam Heughan And Caitriona Balfe Nominated For People’s Choice Awards 2016, Sam Thanks Fans On Twitter
Outlander’s nomination for a People’s Choice Award has officially been confirmed. According to E! Online, the hit series has been nominated for the prestigious award under the category of Best Cable TV Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Show.
In celebration of this achievement, Sam Heughan took to Twitter in order to thank fans for all of their support throughout the show’s first season. “Thank you thank you thank you #outlanderFans @peopleschoice #PeopleChoiceAwards nominations!” Heughan wrote.
Although it is certainly great to see the show being nominated in its debut season, the category has some fairly tough competition. Some of the other shows that Outlander will be facing off with include American Horror Story, Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, and Teen Wolf.
That being said, Outlander has a reputation for having some of the most dedicated fans of any show out there. This should translate well, as fan vote will be the determining factor in this competition.
In addition to the show being nominated, both Heughan and his co-star, Caitriona Balfe, were also awarded nominations for their portrayals of Jamie and Claire Fraser. The two were nominated in the Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV actor and actress categories, respectively.
For his part, Heughan will be up against a number of great actors in this category as he tries to take home the victory. These include Ian Somerhalder, David Tennant, Misha Collins, and Jensen Ackles. As far as Balfe is concerned, she too will be facing some stiff competition. The other actresses in her category include Ginnifer Goodwin, Emilia Clarke, Lady Gaga, and Jennifer Morrison.
Meanwhile, if Outlander does manage to take home some of these awards, then it would only add to what has already been a very successful year for the show. In fact, according to Scotland Now, Heughan has already won multiple awards for his part in the insanely popular series.
Along with his most recent People’s Choice Awards nomination, Heughan was also awarded Radio Time’s SciFi Champion of 2015. In a similar fan-based competition, Heughan faced down the likes of Peter Capaldi (Doctor Who), Lana Parrilla (Once Upon A Time), Colin O’Donoghue (Once Upon A Time), and Eliza Taylor-Cotter (The 100’s) in order to win the top prize.
Additionally, Heughan won Entertainment Weekly’s EWwy Award in the category of Best Actor in a drama series. This award competition was started in order to recognize certain shows that missed being included in the Emmys, and Outlander dominated the field this year. For her part Balfe managed to win an award in the Best Actress category, while Tobias Menzies won for Best Supporting Actor for his part as Black Jack Randall. Further, the show itself brought home an award for the Best Drama, winning some 82 percent of the total vote in that category.
Speaking of Balfe’s achievements, the actress was also included as E! Online’s Girls on Top 2015. In fact, Balfe beat out 63 other women on her way to the top spot in the competition.
In total, this means that the cast of Outlander have managed to win some 5 awards in various competitions to go along with the two recent People’s Choice nominations, and the show is only in its first season! If Outlander fans show up like they have in past competitions, then the show will very likely be adding more awards to its growing list of accomplishments.
Voting has officially opened for the awards, so fans should have plenty of time to get online and vote for their favorite shows. The winners will be announced live at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on January 6, 2016.
