It certainly appeared as if WWE was preparing for another monster mega push with Roman Reigns, but then Seth Rollins injured his knee, keeping him out for six to nine months. While it’s still very possible that Reigns’ push could continue, the original plans before the WWE Champion was injured have now been revealed, and they are huge.
This year is looking very similar to what happened and started a year ago. Roman Reigns has been elevated back into the title picture, and he’s already in place to be in the main event at Survivor Series . Well, WWE’s plans had him being in next month’s main event as well as the TLC Pay-Per-View against Seth Rollins.
WrestleZoneis reporting that not only did plans for this month’s PPV have to be changed, but the main event title plans for the next five to six months had to be altered.
Seth Rollins vs. Roman Reigns for the WWE Title was going to be the main event for Survivor Series and for TLC in December. At some point before the end of the year, plans did call for Rollins to drop the title and then have Reigns champion going into 2016 and being the World Champion on the road to WrestleMania 32 .
Rollins has already flown back home from the U.K. tour that WWE is on, and he’s going to have surgery very soon. On the tour, Reigns is facing off with Bray Wyatt in a Street Fight.
Last year, WWE started a very late, super push for Roman Reigns, which continued into 2015 and saw him win the Royal Rumble . From there, the fans completely dumped on him and the company’s plans to have him win the WWE Title over Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 31 changed to Rollins cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase.
Now, it’s looking just like it did a year ago and it’s on the same track from earlier this year as to how the early part of 2016 will look. Forbes thinks that the time is now for WWE to crown Roman Reigns the World Champion, and it’s a move the company simply needs to pull the trigger on.
With Rollins out and adding to the list of missing superstars such as John Cena, Randy Orton, and Brock Lesnar, help is needed. WWE is reportedly calling on some major, big namesto come in and help fill the voids.
As for Survivor Series , a tournament has now been announced for the WWE World Heavyweight Title and it’s almost sure to include Roman Reigns as one of the participants. It’s possible that plans could still include Reigns winning the WWE Title and the plan’s simply changing as far as how he does it.
This injury to Rollins couldn’t have come at a worse time, though.
The plan was in place for him to battle it out with Reigns for the next two months over the WWE Title and then move the champ (Reigns) onto something else. That “something else” would be the winner of the 2016 Royal Rumble .
As for Seth Rollins, he was rumored to be moving on to a feud with Triple H that would culminate with a match between the two at WrestleMania 32 . It appears as if WWE was going with a Rollins’ face turn which would be accompanied by either a Dean Ambrose heel turn or a babyface reunion of The Shield .
WWE has been panicking a bit over the past few months with falling ratings, and now they’re missing a huge amount of main event level talent. Seth Rollins’ injury drastically altering the original plans for his feud with Roman Reigns and the WWE Title, events are being changed for the next half a year.
