‘The Flash’ Season 2 Spoilers: Is It Time For Tom Welling’s Superman Next Week? — Iris Bringing A ‘Surprising Ally’ For Barry
This season of The Flash is only five episodes old, and the world has already been introduced to Earth-2, Dr. Light, King Shark, and more. One of the best shows on television, and quite arguably the best comic book show going, is really bringing the goods, and it’s just Season 2. Now, some spoilers for next week’s episode state that Iris is bringing a “surprising ally” to help Barry. Could we honestly see Tom Welling’s Superman show up from Smallville?
The rumors have been going around since February that Superman/Clark Kent may show up in Central City. In all honesty, they’ve been around longer than that due to the Daily Planet building appearing in the background of one of the first ever trailers for The Flash before Season 1.
Moving to current and present day, fans are loving The Flash, but they’re wondering when someone with super strength may appear on the show. Spoilers Guide revealed the synopsis for next week’s episode called “Enter Zoom,” and it’s an interesting one.
“After recent events, Barry (Grant Gustin) decides it’s time to confront Zoom and comes up with a dangerous plan. Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) sides with Jay (guest star Teddy Sears) and deems it too dangerous for Barry to engage with the speed demon. However, Iris (Candice Patton) shows her support and brings forth a surprising ally. We see what Earth-2 Harrison Wells’ (Tom Cavanagh) life was like before coming through the breach.”
That is certainly an interesting preview, but the part that stands out the most is the one about Iris showing her support and bringing forth a “surprising ally.” Here are the reasons that some think it could be the debut of Superman on The Flash.
Two weeks ago, Harrison Wells of Earth-2 showed up and, according to USA Today’s recap of last night’s “Darkness and Light,” he was helping out the team on Earth-1. If ever there was going to be a surprising ally, it would be Wells, but he’s already shown up and is helping.
Jay has already been around a good bit due to Caitlyn keeping him around a while longer to help out with things and to start something of their own as well. Even though Barry had his differences with him in the past, he and Jay have squashed that.
In an interesting note, Jay did get close to name-dropping Aquaman during “Darkness and Light,” which is the first reference to that Justice League member. Let’s not forget that Cisco (aka The Vibe) has been getting very friendly with barista Kendra Saunders, who is obviously Hawkgirl.
Now, Zoom is showing his ugly head, and there are a lot more dangers coming the way of Barry Allen on Season 2 of The Flash. Not only does he have to deal with Zoom, but stronger enemies are on their way, which was evident by the appearance of King Shark and the spoiler that Grodd is going to return at some point.
Don’t forget that Caitlyn’s alter-ego, or Earth-2 version, of Killer Frost is on the way as well. Now, let’s look at who this “surprising ally” being brought in by Iris could be.
1. Aquaman — It’s a long-shot as there has not been much of anything behind it, but he was hinted at.
2. Hawkgirl — Her introduction is more about having another connection and build up for Legends of Tomorrow. Both The Flash and Arrow have done a good job of building up the team that will appear on the new show, and that seems to be what Kendra’s appearance was doing.
3. Arrow/Oliver Queen — This is a huge possibility since this crossover has happened before, and it’s known that Oliver does stop in Central City from time-to-time.
4. Superman/Clark Kent (Tom Welling) — All the pieces are starting to fall into place. Much stronger metahumans are showing up, and Grodd is on his way, so some super strength could be needed. That said, how would Iris know who he is? They do have the reporter connection, and Clark Kent could end up being one of her sources or confidants from the Daily Planet in Metropolis.
Superman heading over to The Flash from Smallville is nothing more than rumor at this time, but it all seems to work out. Both Caitlyn and Cisco will/are metahumans, as was also rumored at the same time as Tom Welling showing up on the series was reported. Could it happen next week?
