Two iconic superstars have both said in the past week that a return for another match in WWE is not necessarily out of the question. Oddly enough, they both even said that they would like to face off with Brock Lesnar, but now the stakes have been made a bit higher. It appears now that Bill Goldberg wouldn’t necessarily be against a WWE comeback, but that he’d also like to face off with “Stone Cold” Steve Austin .
Yes, they’ve both said within a week of one another that they could come back to WWE in a wrestling capacity. Goldberg said he would come back for another run, while Austin is leaning toward just one more match.
While both of them have said they’d like to face Brock Lesnar, a challenge has been put out there. Just one day after Austin said he’s “99.9 percent” sure he’s had his last match, Cageside Seats reports that Goldberg would like to face off with Steve Austin if he did ever return to WWE.
Last week, Goldberg spoke with WrestleZone Radio and said he would be fine returning to WWE, but it needs to be done in the right way. He wants to be respected and offered what he thinks he and his time are worth.
“At the end of the day no bulls**t. Just get straight to the point. Let’s talk business. At the end of the day I don’t know what a realistic conversation is with these guys or anybody in the wrestling world for that matter because I haven’t had one in such a long period of time. I don’t know the lay of the land anymore but I know how business is done from back in the day. I know how it should be done now. There’s certain constants that are always there and … I don’t know man. I have no idea what that conversation would be like because I have not thought about it for one second. I don’t know man.”
It makes sense that Goldberg would like to come back, not just on his own terms, but on mutually agreed upon and respectable terms.
Goldberg is 48-years-old and Austin is 50-years-old. They have both said within the last year alone that they’re in the greatest shape of their lives, and they could probably go again. If there was something as big as this match even coming close to happening, it would have to be at WrestleMania 32 , and one would think that WWE would have already had it in place to begin building it now.
“Stone Cold” Steve Austin has flip-flopped a good bit in recent months about what he will or won’t do with WrestleMaina 32 , appearing or not appearing on Monday Night Raw , and other things. You can be sure that he won’t give a definite either way until WWE actually confirms something with Bill Goldberg to happen, if it ever even would.
Bleacher Report has the statement from Goldberg , saying that a match that many fans wanted just never got the chance to happen.
“It would be Austin for sure. Brock would be a good one since we have unfinished business. At the end of the day that everyone clamors for, and I even clamor for, would be Austin and me. There will always be a question mark there unless we were to do something one on one. It’s kind of a match made in heaven.”
Bill Goldberg finally arrived to WWE in 2003, and it happened to be almost immediately after “Stone Cold” Steve Austin retired from in-ring competition. Now, Goldberg and Austin’s timing is kind of odd again, and it really starts the rumors flying that one more match could maybe happen between the two of them.
