Konrad Annerud — Leonardo DiCaprio’s Swedish Doppelgänger — Goes Viral On Social Media, Who Is Sexier?

The gates of social media have opened and Konrad Annerud, the Swedish doppelgänger of A-Lister, AKA Titanic star, Leonardo DiCaprio, has bolted through, gaining tens of thousands of followers in just a few hours and being the focus of news headlines across the world, with some questioning whether his fame is outstripping that of the original star.

How can the two look so similar? And why is this otherwise obscure bartender climbing to social media fame?

Konrad Annerud, Swedish model, musician, and bartender is a dead ringer for Leonardo DiCaprio in the 1990s. Pushing ahead of 75,000 Instagram followers, the fame of Konrad is assured as the Internet goes mental over the uncanny resemblance and rekindling of interests for the young, sexy look of DiCaprio’s golden age in the late 1990s, particularly in the hit Titanic (1997) in which DiCaprio played alongside Kate Winslet as the heart-throb lover-boy crossing the boundaries of social class and challenging the posh upper-class snobbery of the time period.

Some people argue Konrad Annerud might even have a sexier appearance than the A List actor. The Independent reports on a recent interview with Konrad.

“I get to hear that I look like him quite often, especially since I work as a bartender in a nightclub. But it’s fun to be like him, he’s handsome.”

Being compared to DiCaprio’s “Romeo” years, the 21-year-old keeps getting more popular and is attracting global media attention as bloggers and social media crowd their way to be a part of the lovely madness that is the new doppelganger fever taking hold on a much larger scale. So, who is sexier, Leonardo DiCaprio or Konrad Annerud?

It is a compelling case to decide between the two, and really do we have to? All we have to do is appreciate that we have not one, but two living examples of the look we have come to immortalize in our minds. And this is what makes the Doppelgänger phenomena so compelling. One is the star who has himself achieved his own living legend, and his brand, his face, is on someone else’s and no copyright (not yet) stops a person from carrying the same facial features.

And so Konrad is not the only dead ringer for a famous celebrity. Not all famous lookalikes enjoy the same kind of celebrity and fame. Notorious Toby Sheldon, Justin Bieber Look-Alike, had a tragic end to his life. The 35-year-old was found dead on August 21, 2015 after three days of being declared missing. Toby Sheldon is famous for spending up to $100,000 to look like Justin Bieber. Real name Tobias Strebel made an appearance on TLC’s My Strange Addiction where he admitted the obsession for the “What Do You Mean?” singer.

On the other hand, it appears the world’s attention on Konrad Annerud is very positive and he himself is viewing it as a breakthrough moment for his career and name, as he shows his fans love on his various social media platforms.
