In addition to being awarded the Radio Times TV Champion of 2015, Sam Heughan may be set to add another award to his growing list of achievements. According to Gold Derby , the Outlander star is being considered for a Golden Globe nomination for his portrayal of Jamie Fraser on the hit, time-travelling drama.
In fact, Heughan is currently enjoying second place in the standings for best actor on the site that blends opinion from both professionals in the field and fans. As of the latest standing, Kevin Spacey is at the top of the pile for his role on House of Cards while Jon Hamm is resting comfortably below Heughan for his part in Mad Men .
In last year’s running, Heughan only managed to gain the 11th spot on list, mainly due to the fact that it was the show’s first season. Although he was not nominated for the award last year, he should have a great shot at being nominated this year, especially considering the show’s critical success.
In fact, based on the numbers, it is predicted that Heughan has a 7-n-1 chance at winning the award, which is second only to Spacey’s 11-in-2 odds at taking home the prize. Given the fact that the list has been fairly accurate at predicting the winners in the past, Heughan has a good chance at winning the award for best actor.
Other actors featured on the list include Terrence Howard ( Empire ) and Rami Malek ( Mr. Robot ). Considering the talent that is included on this list of potential nominees, Heughan’s inclusion is certainly a compliment to his skills as an actor and popularity of the series.
Speaking of the show’s popularity, Sam Heughan was recently awarded the Radio Times TV Champion after beating out some tough competition to earn the top spot. The competition was decided by fan vote, which Heughan rode to victory surpassing several other actors in TV. If Heughan manages to be nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance in the hit series, it will likely be in part to the massive fan following the actor has enjoyed in his role on Outlander .
Meanwhile, the announcement of a future Golden Globe comes as the series is currently filming for its highly-anticipated second season. With that in mind, producers of the hit series recently shared a few posts from the set of the new season on Twitter .
“Here’s your first #PeekAtParis, and there’s more where this came from. Look out for more shots each week. #Outlander,” the post read.
The second season of Outlander is based on the second book of Diana Gabaldon’s bestselling series, titled Dragonfly in Amber . Along with the new season featuring a change in setting with Jamie and Claire ( Caitriona Balfe ) heading to France, the top rated show will also be introducing a number of new characters.
With many fans eagerly awaiting for the premiere of the new season of Outlander , Balfe recently treated fans to some revealing comments. According to Daily Record , Balfe held a Q & A session with fans where she answered questions about her character and acting alongside Heughan.
In regard to the one thing she enjoys most about playing her character, Balfe told fans that it was “Being out in the Scottish wild with the wind in my hair being bad***!!”
Of course, Balfe also discussed working with Heughan, and described her co-star as being “very thoughtful.” Balfe went on the thank fans for their enormous support, which is something that Outlander seems to have an endless supply.
