Tom Brady Leaned On His Famous Pals Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, And Mark Wahlberg During Deflategate Drama
With all the controversy surrounding Tom Brady this year, from legal issues with the NFL to rumors of marital problems, the quarterback apparently turned to a few Hollywood stars for support. According to Entertainment Tonight, Brady leaned on his fellow Bostonians, including Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, and Mark Wahlberg, for help.
“I’ve been a displaced Californian living in Boston and realizing the roots and how strong the Boston culture is, so that’s where I’ve been for 16 years of my life,” he stated. “That’s where my kids were born, and that’s where I’ll live, so it’s a great place to live … There’s a lot of roots in Boston, so [those] guys in particular, I’ve gotten to know over the years and they’re all friends. They believe in what we’re doing, and it’s great to have such great support from all those guys.”
Brady had a difficult time this summer following accusations that he deflated footballs during the NFL playoffs last season. Following all the drama with the NFL, which was not resolved until a drawn-out battle in court settled the issue, rumors also began to circulate that Brady was having difficulties with his marriage.
In order to get through all of this controversy and negative attention, Brady was able to find support in Damon, Affleck, and Wahlberg.
“That is the Boston crew, man,” he stated.
Although it isn’t clear how his friends helped him through his struggles, it likely came in the form of shared experiences. In fact, Affleck has been through his fair share of marital problems recently after announcing his divorce with long-time wife Jennifer Garner.
The couple announced their split after rumors began to surface that Affleck was cheating on Garner with their children’s nanny, Christine Ouzounian. For his part, Brady was brought into the mix after Ouzounian posted a picture on social media wearing Brady’s Superbowl rings.
Meanwhile, in regards to the speculation that Brady and Bundchen were having problems, the quarterback stated that his relationship with his wife is actually better than ever. In fact, according to People, she is one of his biggest supporters.
“We’re in a great place, I’ll just say that. I’m a lucky man. I’ve been very blessed with support from my family and certainly her, and there’s no bigger supporter that I have than her and vice versa,” he explained in the interview. “I’ve been very blessed to have an incredible relationship with my life partner, and I don’t think anything will ever get in the way of that.”
Meanwhile, with so many things going wrong for the quarterback, he has managed to find success in the midst of his troubles. Not only did his team end up winning the Superbowl last year, but he also beat the NFL in his lawsuit against the league. Part of his will to make things work and get through the tough times in life stems from the motivation he finds in adversity.
“Well, I’ve had a lot of events in my life that have motivated me,” he stated in the interview. “Starting with high school – the love of the game, the love of my sport, it started in high school. There’s challenges in college. There’s challenges when I started professionally. There’s been challenges when I injure myself. There’s challenges this off season, but, I think all of those things reinforce what your belief systems are.”
At the same time, although Brady draws inspiration from the challenges that face him, it is also clear that he finds support in his friends, which just so happens to include a few Hollywood A-listers.
