WWE News: Brock Lesnar Return Date Revealed — When Will ‘The Beast’ Be Back?
Following Brock Lesnar’s win over The Undertaker at Hell in a Cell, it was reported that “The Beast” wouldn’t be returning to WWE television until early next year. But now, according to the Wrestling Observer, it appears that Lesnar will be making at least one more appearance before the end of the year.
Brock Lesnar will be appearing, for the third time this year, at a WWE house show in Los Angeles on December 19. As of this writing, WWE isn’t advertising Lesnar for that specific show on their events page, however, The Forum, which is the arena that is hosting the show, announced that Lesnar will be wrestling on the show. At this moment, there’s not even a rumored opponent for Lesnar.
Back on July 4, for the first time ever, WWE decided to broadcast a house show on the WWE Network, and the show was built around two matches: Finn Balor vs. Kevin Owens for the NXT Championship, and the Brock Lesnar squash match, which turned out to be against Kofi Kingston.
If Lesnar wasn’t going to appear on the July 4 house show, WWE probably wouldn’t have put the show on their network, and it would have remained as an non-televised live event.
Earlier this month, from Madison Square Garden in New York, WWE put another house show on the WWE Network, and it was a show that was completely built around Brock Lesnar, as he would be taking on Big Show. The match didn’t last all that long, as Lesnar pinned Big Show in just over four minutes.
The idea for Lesnar appearing on these house shows is for him to squash his opponent in a short amount of time. If you saw his previous two WWE live event matches, you know that the format of the match is, Lesnar hits a couple of suplexes, then hits the F-5, and the match is over before you know it.
Before Big Show was announced as Lesnar’s opponent for the Madison Square Garden show, WWE fans and pundits both expected him to go one-on-one with someone like Bo Dallas, who he had a brief run in with the night after SummerSlam. So, when Big Show was announced as “The Beast’s” opponent, it was a bit surprising, as most didn’t think WWE would use someone like “The World’s Largest Athlete” as a squash guy for Lesnar.
As for if Lesnar will appear on WWE television leading up to the event, well, that’s still undecided. Before the July 4 show, Lesnar didn’t do anything on television to promote the show. There was only one short commercial that ran during all WWE shows before the event that simply let the fans know that Lesnar would be appearing at the event, but they never said who his opponent was going to be. Of course, many found out ahead of time that is was going to be Kofi Kingston, however, WWE never acknowledged that until the day of the show.
Both Lesnar and Big Show promoted their match at Madison Square Garden on WWE television in the weeks leading up to it. But, that could be because WWE wanted its fans to see Lesnar squash Big Show before he got into the ring with Undertaker at Hell in a Cell.
The promotion of Lesnar’s appearance at The Forum in December could just depend on who his opponent is. If it’s a big name, then it’ll likely be pushed hard on WWE’s weekly television show. But, if Lesnar ends up facing someone like Bo Dallas at the event, his appearance may just be mentioned in passing, much like it was leading up to the July 4 show.
So, as of right now, it looks like the Lesnar appearance on December 19 will be a one-off, and that he’ll probably not be on RAW until after the new year begins.
