Johnny Depp Steals Amber Heard’s Car: ‘Get My Car Back!’ [Video]
Johnny Depp, like most husbands, knows just what things his wife, Amber Heard, is most attached to and that makes for the beginnings of a highly successful practical joke. That one precious material possession is Heard’s baby -a 1968 Ford Mustang.
Amber Heard Has Loved Her Mustang Longer Than She Has Known Johnny Depp
Long before Amber first met Johnny Depp and, even before she really made a name for herself, Amber was just a young girl moving to California and in need of a car. Heard bought the 1968 Ford Mustang that would forever enrapture her heart, and while Amber has referred to the vehicle as her “beautiful piece of junk” on more than one occasion, Johnny Depp’s wife has never lost her attachment to the classic car.
“I bought it as kind of a drivable piece of junk, a beautiful piece of junk,” Ms. Heard recalled, according to Business Standard. “The car cost me every dime I had.”
There is no mathematical measure for the emotional attachment one feels for something like Amber’s Mustang, particularly when that object has cost so much time and money in maintaining it. While Ms. Heard freely admits the car has been falling apart, gradually eroding and taking on too much wear and tear, there’s just too much love in Amber’s heart for her to give the car up.

Of course, Johnny Depp knows just how much Amber loves that Mustang. That’s exactly why he thought it would be fun to convince her that the car had been stolen and, with the help of the Overhaulin’ cast and crew and Heard’s own father, the stunt was convincing enough to drive Amber mad with rage.
As the police officer, who was actually an Overhaulin’ cast member in costume, stood by and took pictures of Johnny’s irate wife, Ms. Heard grew even angrier, screaming at the “officer” and commanding him to get moving on the investigation.
“Get my car back!”
As the man in blue continued to film, Ms. Heard questioned those around her as to why the officer was still filming her and not acting on the investigation. Finally, Amber flipped off the officer, before walking away, reports E! News.
This practical joke would have a surprise ending, all of which had been arranged by Depp as a gift to his wife, with Chip Foose, a celebrated custom car designer, turning Amber’s self-proclaimed piece of junk into a sparkling, cherry red stunner.
Depp’s wife didn’t take too long in figuring out what was really happening, but even then, she seemed reluctant about the remodeling of her baby. Upon realizing that her father and her husband were in on the prank together, Amber slapped both men, shocked that they had gone to such great lengths to fool her.
“I’m overwhelmed! I can’t believe it,” said Depp’s wife. “I don’t let anyone touch my car!”
It wasn’t until Heard and her ’68 Mustang were reunited and she saw the end result of Overhaulin’s work on the car that her heart melted and Johnny’s practical joke turned gift brought Heard to tears.
“I’m sorry,” Ms. Heard said, as she was seen both crying and laughing at the same time. “I can’t believe it! Oh my God, thank you so much!”
Amber Heard can be seen in the upcoming Tom Hooper biography, The Danish Girl, which will premiere on November 27 in theaters.
Johnny Depp’s latest hit, Black Mass, is currently showing in theaters.
