Halle Berry Divorce: Actress, Olivier Martinez Split After Two Years, Request Privacy
Halle Berry has filed for divorce from Olivier Martinez after two years of marriage. According to People Magazine, the couple has decided to split, but they are doing so amicably. On Tuesday, the actress and her French film actor husband announced the sad news by releasing a joint statement to the press.
“It is with a heavy heart that we have come to the decision to divorce. We move forward with love and respect for one another and the shared focus of what is best for our son. We wish each other nothing but happiness in life and we hope that you respect our and, most importantly, our children’s privacy as we go through this difficult period.”
Halle Berry divorce rumors have been plentiful this year, but the actress has managed to curb the chatter. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Berry was spotted without her wedding ring over the summer, but was quick to let everyone know that she had simply “lost” the jewelry, and that she was simply “too busy” with other things to replace it.
Despite the actress’ attempt to quell the tabloid gossip, the rumors continued for weeks. While many people let Halle’s excuse ride, others wondered if the tabloids’ consistent reports held any truth. Now, of course, it appears that they very well may have.
As many people know, Olivier Martinez has quite a temper. On Thanksgiving Day, 2012, he got into a physical altercation with Halle’s ex, Gabriel Aubry. The fight occurred in Berry’s home when Aubry showed up to drop off his daughter, Nahla. At the time, authorities said that Martinez made a comment to Aubry — something like, “we have to move on” — and that set Aubry off.
According to Us Weekly, it was Aubry who threw the first punch, and the men went at it for an unknown amount of time after that.
“Aubry sustained a broken rib, contusions on his face and a possible head injury. Martinez may have broken his hand and suffered neck injuries.”
Back in January, Martinez got himself into trouble when he shoved an LAX employee with a car seat. According to TMZ, Berry and Martinez are now being sued over the incident.
“In his lawsuit, filed Monday in L.A., [Ronaldo] Owens says he wasn’t blocking the couple’s path… and had every right to be where he was as an LAX employee… Owens says Martinez brutally charged at him without provocation — and he accuses Halle of masterminding the whole thing, saying she gave her husband ‘carte blanche ability to attack.’ He’s suing them for at least $5 million,” reports TMZ.
Halle Berry met Olivier Martinez in 2010 when the two were working on the film Dark Tide. The two dated quietly for several months, and announced that they were expecting a baby together in 2013. A then-pregnant Berry married Martinez at the Chateau des Conde in France. The couple welcomed their son, Maceo-Robert, three months later on October 5 (Berry also has 7-year-old daughter Nahla with Aubry).
