Expectations are very high for the upcoming DC Comics and Warner Bros. film, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice . Not only are fans eager to see the epic collision between these two superheroes, but it’s also the first time Ben Affleck will appear as Batman. Now, to add to the pressure, the film is also set to become one of the most expensive films ever made.
According to Latino Review , the movie’s budget has increased to an incredible $410 million. This is very close in surpassing the current record holder, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides , which ended up costing some $410.6 million. Why has the budget inflated so much?
Part of the reason the film is costing the studio so much to make has to do with salary costs. According to Cinema Blend , the studio is having to fork out a lot of money to each of its actors, of which is has plenty. In fact, along with Affleck, the film is set to star Henry Cavill (Superman), Jesse Eisenberg (Lex Luthor), Jeremy Irons (Alfred), Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Laurence Fishburne (Perry White), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Ray Fisher (Cyborg), Ezra Miller (The Flash), Diane Lane (Martha Kent), Holly Hunter, Tao Okamoto (Mercy Graves), Scoot McNairy, Callan Mulvey, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Jena Malone.
Based on the list of actors, the film will clearly be having to pay out a lot of money in salary alone. Additionally, considering all the extended photography, filming locations, and visual effects, it is easy to see how the budget has grown so large for the film.
Speaking of visual effects, this is one element of Batman v Superman that is definitely contributing to the inflated budget. Not only does the movie have to deal with all the effects associated with Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman, but it also has a number of villains to contend with.
With that in mind, Cinema Blend is reporting that the film will feature multiple villains, including the likes of Lex Luthor’s son and Doomsday. However, it should be noted that Doomsday might not even be included in the film. In fact, a representative from one of the companies that helped with the visual effects stated that Doomsday was not a part of the coming movie.
To add to the notion that Doomsday will not be in the film, Batman News recently highlighted the fact that producers would have already mentioned his role in the movie by now. This does seem true, as the film is now only a handful of months away from premiering.
Whatever the truth concerning Doomsday turns out to be, everything regarding the character is pure speculation at this point. Fans will likely have to wait until the premiere date is a little closer before anything definitive is released.
Meanwhile, although the film will likely be fairly dark in tone, there will be some lighter moments in the movie. To that end, Adams recently sat down with the Hollywood Reporter and shared a little on her character’s interactions with Superman and Batman.
“I can’t give too much away, but I’m coming into a scene and Batman and Superman are both in the scene, so I can say that. And it was just fun,” Adams revealed to the outlet. “Because they had been working together for a couple weeks and just running it, seeing this dynamic. I’ll talk about this when we’re promoting the movie and we can tell more. But there were definitely funny moments involving bat-suits and such.”
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is scheduled to be released to theaters on March 25, 2016.
