Chad Ochocinco, who recently lost his job with the New England Patriots , worked out with the Miami Dolphins over the weekend.
Miami coach Joe Philbin confirmed the workout session but didn’t release many details. Philbin did say “we’re doing our homework” when asked if the Dolphins were going to consider signing Ochocinco.
Dolphins Running Back Reggie Bush seemed excited about the idea of playing with Ochocinco. Bush said:
“We would love to have him… I think he’s got a lot left.”
NFL.com reports that Ochocinco six straight 1,000-yard seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals but his production has slowed in recent years. Last year Ochocinco had just 276 yards on 15 passes with Patriots.
Ochocinco, now 34, is entering (or has entered) the twilight of his career. But according to CBS , Ochocinco wasn’t released from New England due to his old legs. An NFL scout told NFL.com:
“I do think he still has some life in his legs, but the mental concerns are what trouble me.”
Whether or not Ochocinco has what it takes to play in the NFL another year remains to be seen, but it would be interesting to see that story play out in Miami. After all, it will give HBO’s Hardknocks one more story line.
