There has been a lot of hype surrounding Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill’s upcoming film, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice . After all, not only is the storyline and tone of the movie different than anything we’ve seen in recent years, but the movie will also introduce a number of new actors, including Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman and Affleck as Batman.
While fans are also excited to watch the battle between Superman (Cavill) and Batman unfold, the film marks the first time Affleck will suit up as the caped crusader. In regards to Affleck’s take on the iconic superhero, fans should be comforted in knowing that director Zack Snyder recently revealed that he is the best version of Batman he’s ever seen on film.
According to Irish Examiner , Snyder’s comments came during a recent celebration on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in honor of the man who created Batman, Bob Kane.
“Ben is the best Batman in my opinion. Just look at him.”
Although many people initially doubted the studio’s decision to cast Affleck for the part, Snyder’s comments should help to alleviate some of those doubts. In fact, along with simply looking the part, Synder added that Affleck’s abilities as an actor are also what makes him the best man for the role.
“Ben brings so much. He brings gravitas, he is serious, he’s an amazing actor and he has got the size,” he explained in the video clip, which was released by MSN . “I’m a big fan. He is all of 6’4? and that is real Batman in my opinion.”
Speaking of the real Batman and bringing the comic book version to life, Snyder also discussed his past history with the hero. In particular, Snyder highlighted just how grateful he is to be a part of the hit franchise that is embraced throughout the world.
“Batman has always been one of my favorite comic book heroes and 75 years ago Bob created an enduring character that clearly is beloved throughout the world,” he shared. “It’s an honour for me to be one of the guys who gets to say he’s cool.”
Meanwhile, back to Ben Affleck as Batman, Snyder also talked about seeing Affleck in costume for the first time. After seeing just how Affleck would look as the caped crusader, Snyder stated that he knew he had done something fans would appreciate.
“I was having him turn and look around and be Batman-ish and it was amazing because I felt in that moment that I had achieved the goal that I had set out for myself,” Snyder revealed. “He was the perfect personification of the Batman I had in my mind.”
At the same time, Snyder also offered up his own words in celebration of the legacy of Bob Kane, the man who created the DC Comics superhero we’ve all come to love.
“But the truth is, he wasn’t really the Batman that I had imagined, because Bob had really put him there in my mind, through years of TV shows, comic books and movies,” Snyder commented in his speech. “I realized every single one of us has an imaginary Batman in our minds, lurking in the shadows. That is real and that is Bob’s legacy, 75 years of Batman and he has given this gift to all of us.”
Luckily, fans won’t have to wait much longer to Affleck as the latest incarnation of Batman. In fact, we are only a handful of months away from the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice , which is set to hit theaters on March 25, 2016.
