‘Arrow’ Star Stephen Amell Talks Romance For Oliver Queen This Season And His Hollywood Break
For fans of Arrow, it was great to finally see Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) and Felicity Smoak finally get together. While many fans like to recount the couple’s hot night in Nanda Parbat, Amell recently sat down and discussed his character’s romantic life and his own breakthrough in Hollywood.
According to Canada.com, Amell explained that he liked how the writers let his character’s relationship with Felicity develop over time instead of just rushing into things.
Meanwhile, as the current season of Arrow continues to unfold, Oliver is setting himself to become the major official. At the same time, this season has featured a lighter tone to Oliver, which is something Amell stated is a reflection of his character’s growing wisdom.“I just enjoy when there’s a storyline that’s built over the course of several seasons and then it comes to fruition… Our writers are big believers in not teasing the audience without delivering. How long it takes is anyone’s guess. But it’s important to pay off storylines.”
“I think that our show is our show, and even if there’s a quote-unquote lighter side of Oliver,” he stated. “I wouldn’t even say ‘lighter’. I’d say it’s a more patient and possibly wiser version of the character.”
Elsewhere, as the show continues to enjoy success in its fourth season, Amell also touched on his own success as an actor, and talked about the struggles he faced trying to start his career in Canada.
“In Toronto — and this was my fault, this is not a reflection of the industry – I found it difficult to string one job into another job,” he explained in the interview. “It’s the way you’d build any other career, like an athlete goes from A, to AA to AAA to the big leagues.”
Luckily, Amell experienced different results once he moved to Hollywood. Although it took a while for him to progress in the highly competitive world of acting, Amell’s roles continued to get better and better until he finally landed the lead role in Arrow.
“I was at a restaurant in Burbank, Calif., having breakfast. I’d just filmed an episode of Private Practice that morning and was heading to one of those old makeup shops in Burbank to have a prosthetic built for my next episode,” Amell explained regarding landing the part of Oliver in Arrow.
“I got the call from my manager and agent at the time, and they just said, ‘Congratulations.’ I texted my parents and Robbie, and I put the press release on Facebook and Twitter… Then I distinctly remember driving home and taking a long nap.”
After landing the role on Arrow, Amell has continued to enjoy success in Hollywood. In fact, according to MTV News, the actor is set to play Casey Jones in the upcoming movie, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Half Shell.
Speaking of his upcoming film, Amell was kind enough to bring his daughter, Maverick, along with for the production of the sequel over the summer. The filming took place in New York, where Amell spent some time in between his busy schedule to spend with his daughter and wife, Cassandra Jean.In addition to his role in Arrow and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Half Shell, Amell is set to make a cameo appearance on the new DC Comics show, Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl. Legends of Tomorrow is set to air on The CW and CTV, while Supergirl will makes its way to CBS later this month.
In the meantime, fans can watch Amell as the fourth season of Arrow continues to air Wednesday nights on The CW.
