Kaley Cuoco And Ryan Sweeting Divorce Gets Complicated As Sweeting Seeks Spousal Support From The ‘Big Bang Theory’ Star
When Kaley Cuoco and Ryan Sweeting announced their plans to divorce, TMZ stated it should be a clean break. The couple, married only 21 months, apparently had a prenuptial agreement. But now Entertainment Tonight is reporting that Sweeting has requested spousal support from Cuoco and asked a judge to prevent Cuoco from requesting support from him.
There’s another interesting detail — Sweeting’s legal filing, a response to Cuoco’s request for a divorce, lists the date of separation as September 25, 2015 — three weeks after the date Cuoco cited (September 3, 2015). September 25 is the date that the couple publicly revealed their plans to go their separate ways.
Cuoco’s filing cited “irreconcilable differences” as her justification for the divorce. An unnamed source told ET that despite the relatively short marriage, the split “was a long time coming.” Sweeting, a professional tennis player since 2007, won the U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championships in 2011. Cuoco had defended Sweeting in April as she dismissed rumors of tension between the couple. The Daily Mail reported on her supportive caption included with a picture of Sweeting on her Instagram.
“I have never been more proud of anyone on this planet – this guy is fighting back from a whirlwind of injuries and not to mention constant ‘conversation’ regarding our marriage and basically any daily decision we decide to make.”
People reported after the divorce became public that Cuoco and Sweeting had tried to work on the marriage, even going on date nights, but “they both seemed miserable,” according to an unnamed source.
“The few times Kaley and Ryan were out together recently, the tension was noticeable. You could tell the honeymoon phase had ended.”
The source also said that, as Sweeting was battling injuries, he was playing little tennis and “acted down.” It was quite different from Kaley’s active lifestyle.
“Kaley and Ryan seem to have totally different personalities. Kaley is extremely focused and high-energy. She seems to always be working. On her off time, she also keeps very busy.”
Kaley Cuoco is one of the biggest stars on television due to her role on The Big Bang Theory. Although her fame has eclipsed Ryan Sweeting’s since the beginning of her marriage, the professional difference between the two perhaps increased when she and her co-stars got a raise during the summer of 2014. As Us Weekly reported in August of that year, Cuoco, Johnny Galecki and Jim Parsons now receive $1 million per episode as a result of lengthy contract negotiations.
According to ET, Sweeting has a net worth of $2 million, while Cuoco’s net worth is $45 million. As if to prove that it’s always difficult to estimate a celebrity’s true financial worth, Extra reported today that Cuoco is actually worth $5 million. The actor has been in the industry since she was a teenager, acting as John Ritter’s daughter in the comedy series 8 Simple Rules. Cuoco has had some film roles as well, including opposite Josh Gad in The Wedding Ringer.
Despite her marriage to Sweeting, Cuoco has had to deny rumors she’s getting a little cozy off screen with her co-stars. Shortly after the Sweeting-Cuoco split was announced, fans started speculating — or hoping — that she’d reunited with Galecki, whom she dated in real life when the show was in its early seasons. Both Cuoco and Galecki took to Instagram to shut down those rumors.
