‘Fear The Walking Dead’ Teaser Video Points To Zombies At Sea?

Fear the Walking Dead may have just finished its first season, but AMC is already offering hints about its second season in a teaser video. Fear the Walking Dead, the prequel series to zombie apocalypse TV series The Walking Dead, had a six episode run from August to October, and was both a critical and commercial success.

Fear The Walking Dead focuses on the events that happened before The Walking Dead’s main character, Rick Grimes, wakes up in a hospital and begins his journey trying to survive from zombies. Like its inspiration, Fear The Walking Dead is also based on a comic book series written by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard.

According to Crossmap, Fear the Walking Dead debuted to 10.1 million viewers in August, which was the highest first season TV rating in cable history. Fear The Walking Dead centers around a family in Los Angeles, California, with matriarch Madison Clark, played by Kim Dickens, and her boyfriend, Travis Manawa, played by Cliff Curtis.

Also included in the family are daughter Alicia, played by Alycia Debnam-Carey, and son Nick, played by Frank Dillane. Each member of this family has issues they are dealing with, most notably Nick, who is a drug addict.

As if existing in a dysfunctional family weren’t enough, the characters must also face a rising zombie apocalypse. Throughout the six episodes of Season 1, the characters fight zombies, military rule, and themselves before finally venturing out to sea. Season 2 of Fear The Walking Dead will take place immediately following where Season 1 left off. In an interview reported on by Venture Capital Post, series creator Robert Kirkman elaborated on Season 2.

“There’s definitely some zombie water action coming up… just because it takes place on the boat doesn’t mean they’ll be on the boat all the time. It will be a seafaring adventure.”

Season 2 then, will hope to address what fans of the series have been asking, namely why didn’t the survivors just head out to sea. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Fear the Walking Dead series co-creator Dave Erickson teases some early plot details for Season 2.

“First of all, getting to the yacht is going to be something of a challenge. And then the question becomes: once we get to it, which way is it going to go? And we will discover that we were not the only ones with this bright idea.”

Season 1 of Fear the Walking Dead focused a lot on how characters reacted to their changing circumstances. The theme of survival was evident not only when dealing with zombies, but when dealing with humans. Having to act as a community versus having to act alone was a challenge, Dave Erickson said.

“And much in the same way that we have taken steps to survive and compromised our morals to do so, we’re going to have to deal with some people who have very similar objectives, and the default setting for most of these people is not going to be let’s all live in harmony and try to build a new community. It’s going to be, how do we protect what’s ours? How do we protect our family?”

While Season 1 of Fear the Walking Dead revolved around Madison Clark and her family, it finished by introducing the character of Victor Strand, whose boat they plan on escaping in. Victor Strand — played by Colman Domingo — is smart, successful, and wealthy, but not much more is known about him. If all goes to plan and the characters find themselves alone on a boat together, his mysterious past is sure to be revealed.

AMC’s teaser video for Season 2 just days after the end of Season 1 offers just enough information to both excite and frustrate fans of the show. Season 2 of Fear the Walking Dead will premiere sometime in 2016, but hopefully it will be earlier in the year rather than later.
