Taylor Swift, The Weeknd, Ed Sheeran Lead AMA Nominations
The American Music Awards Nominations are in, and The Weeknd, Taylor Swift, and Ed Sheeran are the leaders of the pack. Swift has been having one amazing year, and her six nominations are just the icing on the cake. Both Sheeran and The Weeknd follow the pop superstar with five nominations each, according to USA Today’s list of nominees.
Swift, who opened the show last year with her hit single “Blank Space,” will be heading back, but will she walk away with the most awards? Singer Joe Jonas and Charlie Puth appeared on Good Morning America Tuesday morning, where they announced all of the nominees, which also includes, Ariana Grande, rapper Nicki Minaj, One Direction, and country superstar Luke Bryan.
The real battle comes at the end when 10 artists are looking to score the highest award of the night — Artist of the Year. This year has a great selection of artists from different genres, including Taylor Swift, first-time AMA nominee The Weeknd, Sheeran, Bryan, Grande, Minaj, Maroon 5, One Direction, Sam Smith, and Meghan Trainor. Each artist has topped the charts in their category, but only one will be able to walk home with the award.

Canadian R&B singer The Weeknd, real name Abel Tesfaye, has been topping the charts with “Can’t Feel My Face” since its initial release, and now the song is in the running for the coveted Song of the Year award. There’s some stiff competition this year, and he’s up against Swift’s “Blank Space,” Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud,” Wiz Khalifa featuring Charlie Puth’s “See You Again,” and Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ hit “Uptown Funk.”
All AMA nominations are decided based on both album and digital sales, along with radio airplay, and fan interactions that are tracked by Billboard and Nielsen Entertainment. The winners, however, are chosen by the fans. Fans can vote for The Weekend or any of their favorites simply by visiting the AMA website or by logging onto Twitter.
