Harry Styles: Did One Direction Just Throw Shade At Taylor Swift
One Direction star Harry Styles is widely regarded as the band’s playboy. Harry has had a long string of relationships with beautiful women, including Taylor Swift, Kendall Jenner, and Victoria’s secret model Nadine Leopold. Styles began to acquire a reputation as a ladies man when he dated Caroline Flack while she was part of the production staff on X-Factor and Harry was part of a newly formed boy band competing on the 2010 season of the show. Styles was just 17-years-old at the time, and Flack was in her early 30s.
As was recently reported by the Inquisitr, Flack took a lot of abuse over her relationship with Harry. She was called a “pedophile” and a “pervert” after Styles was pictured leaving her house early one morning. Sadly, Flack has now dished the dirt on her relationship with Styles in a new book titled Storm in a C Cup.
Now it is being claimed that Harry is dishing a little dirt of his own in One Direction’s new single “Perfect,” which is due to drop this Friday, October 16. Several sources are speculating that the new One Direction single is Styles’ way of hitting back at former lover Taylor Swift.
Harry and Taylor dated for a few months back in late 2012. After the star couple split, Taylor wrote a series of songs about the breakup, and according to Metro, Swift once revealed that she had written five songs about Styles in a single week. It is widely believed that Swift’s songs “I Knew You Were Trouble,” “Out Of The Woods,” and “I Wish You Would” were all about her relationship with Harry. Styles has remained silent about Taylor’s songs, but it is now thought that “Perfect” is a somewhat delayed response to Taylor.
The Daily Mirror reports that an article in the Sun claims that “Perfect” includes a lyric claiming that Harry was just “someone to write break-up songs about.” Metro says that Swift’s “I Wish You Would” contains the following lyrics.
“It’s 2 AM in your car, windows down, you pass my street, the memories start, you say it’s in the past, you drive straight ahead, you’re thinking that I hate you now, ‘Cause you still don’t know what I never said.”
Styles has a writing credit for “Perfect” alongside bandmate Louis Tomlinson, and Contact Music claims that the new One Direction single contains lyrics that appear to be a direct reply to Taylor’s lyrics.
“If you like when I’m driving with the windows down, If you like going places we can’t even pronounce, If you like to do whatever you’ve been dreaming about, baby you’re perfect.”
The Mirror report that a One Direction “insider” told the Sun that Harry has written the song about his relationship with Swift, but that Harry would never be too specific about his relationships.
“Harry would never get too specific about Taylor in a song, but the lyrics are definitely going to get fans speculating. Harry doesn’t want to dish the dirt but a relationship as intense as theirs has provided lots of inspiration.”
Until now, Harry has always remained discreet and tight-lipped about his relationships, so it may be unreasonable for One Direction fans to expect too many exciting revelations in the new single or album. Styles, like any songwriter, is bound to draw from his experiences through life as he writes songs. Songs that are personal often have the strongest narrative, and there is no reason to believe Styles is different from any other songwriter in that respect.
As previously stated, “Perfect” is released at the end of this week, and One Direction’s fifth studio album is scheduled to drop on November 13. Harry and his bandmates will promote the album before they go on an extended break.
