Amber Portwood Headed to Prison for 5 Years

Amber Portwood, star of MTV reality show Teen Mom, is headed back to prison after a judge reimposed a 5 year sentence which was originally handed down to her for a 2011 drug arrest. Portwood had managed to negotiate a deal to get out of the sentence by admitting herself to, and completing, a drug rehab program.

Last week Portwood appeared in court to face the judge, and even though her lawyer made it clear this was not his doing, she told the judge that she was not going to be able to complete her drug rehab program. TMZ is reporting that Portwood told the judge that she will always be a “bad girl” and that she would prefer to do her time in prison as opposed to a rehab center.

in 2010, Amber Portwood was charged with three felonies for domestic violence committed against her ex-fiance, Gary Shirley. The crimes were committed in front of the couple’s daughter Leah. MTV cameras had caught the incident on camera and the footage was used as evidence against Portwood.

She was sentenced to two years in prison, but the judge suspended the sentence and gave her three years of probation instead. She violated her probation in 2011 when she got into a street fight and was found to be carrying prescription medication without having a prescription. In June of 2011 Portwood was rushed to the hospital after a reported suicide attempt.

Portwood appeared on the first cycle of MTV’s Teen Mom which chronicled the birth and then raising of her daughter Leah.

Portwood is going to be referred to the Indiana Department of Corrections’ drug treatment program.
