Selena Gomez’s ‘Revival’: Why She Fired Her Mom And Posed Topless
Selena Gomez is releasing her new album, Revival, on Friday, October 9. Although it’s her second studio solo album, it’s her first album from Interscope Records.
The former Wizards of Waverly Place star cut ties with both Disney and her own mother. She’s now signed to Interscope Records instead of Disney’s Hollywood Records. Gomez also shows that’s all grown up by posing topless on the cover of the album. She also has a whole new sound and look, which is a departure from her cute and sweet image. Gomez has been on board with the production and songwriting on Revival.
For the past few months, she has told fans that she wanted to share her side of the story. In fact, she has so many secrets that she wants to share. Selena also proved that she’s an adult by posing in nothing but a black bondage-style bra and black high-waisted underwear. There’s also Selena’s debut single “Good For You,” which shows the singer writhing around on the couch and the floor and taking a shower in the buff.
Selena Gomez’s adult music career started the moment she fired her mother, Mandy Teefy, and stepfather, Brian, as her managers. According to lawyer Stephen Weaver, having parents as managers can often create problems with record labels. When it comes to her partially nude Revival cover photo, Gomez didn’t strip down just to prove that she’s sexy. In fact, it was her direct response to the body shamers who slammed her bikini body earlier this year.
“I did start gaining weight, and I didn’t mind. [The comments were] really hurtful… But I’m not gonna give a f**k what people say. I’m not gonna let them get to me.”
Selena also hit back at online trolls and body shamers when she performed her new single “Same Old Love” on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, as previously noted via Us Weekly. She stepped out in a white Ellie Saab pantsuit with just a black bra underneath. Selena showed off her toned and taut stomach as her male backup dancers performed behind, taking a page out of BFF Taylor Swift’s male backup dancers on her “1989 World Tour.”
During her interview with talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, Gomez addressed the criticism and hate she received for simply wearing a bikini while on vacation in Mexico.
“It was the first time I’d ever been called fast…it was weird because it’s not just ‘Oh, she’s fat.’ It’s like, ‘She’s a mess. She’s gone off the deep end.’ I’m like, ‘because I’m on a vacation wearing a bathing suit? Actually technically that is a little too small for me, but I didn’t care.”
Selena addressed to Us Weekly earlier this week that one of her haters even called her “fat” to her face as she walked through LAX Airport. She told Ellen that she posted her own bikini photo on Instagram was to bring some light and positivity to the moment.
“Look, I didn’t want them to win. It’s so annoying when I see it all over the place and everybody thinks they can bring me down. So my immediate response was I’m gonna post a picture and I’m like, ‘I’m happy with me y’all… I wasn’t gonna let that be the story. That wasn’t the story.”
And now Gomez is sharing her story with the world. Not only is she opening about going through therapy for the body shaming comments, but she also received chemotherapy treatment for her battle with Lupus. Gomez told the audience that although she’s healthy at the moment, she still has to take good care of herself since it’s something she will have for the rest of her life.
In light of her Revival release, Selena took to Twitter to have a Q&A and listening party with her fans. If you purchased her new album, what are your thoughts on it? Share your thoughts below in the comments section.
