‘Basketball Wife’ Gloria Govan At The Center Of Brawl Between Derek Fisher And Matt Barnes
Memphis Grizzlies player Matt Barnes allegedly had a physical altercation with New York Knicks coach Derek Fisher Saturday evening at the L. A. home of Barnes’ former wife, Gloria Govan.
Sources told the New York Post and ESPN that Barnes allegedly initiated the brawl with Fisher. Another source told the same publication that Barnes drove 95 miles to confront Fisher when he learned that the coach is having a romantic affair with his ex-wife.

The coach, who visited his kids that weekend, drove to Los Angeles to visit Govan. Barnes was with the Grizzlies team for a training camp in Santa Barbara when he was informed by his six-year-old twin sons, Carter and Isaiah, that Fisher was at Govan’s house. “Barnes went crazy. He got in his car and went to the house and went after Fisher,” a source spilled.
“Matt then drove down there to beat the s–t out of him.”
Govan, a former member of the reality series, Basketball Wives, is being linked to Fisher of late. According to Us Weekly, Govan, 45, and Fisher, 41, had been spotted spending time together at the Capella in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico this July.
Upon arriving at his ex-wife’s home, the Grizzlies forward found Fisher hanging out with Govan and some family members and friends in the backyard. The brawl started there, went through the kitchen, and stopped at the front of the house, recalled an eyewitness. Fisher left the house before the police arrived.
One source said Barnes texted a friend saying he did not only beat Fisher, but also got even with his estranged wife.
“I kicked his ass from the backyard to the front room, and spit in her face,” the text from the Grizzlies player read, revealed the source.
An insider confirmed that Fisher is not going to press charges against the Grizzlies forward. On Tuesday, the coach reportedly showed up to practice without any injury. The Grizzlies and Knicks officials and NBA security have been informed of the run-in and are presently looking into the incident, according to Us Weekly.

Representatives of both parties have yet to release a formal statement on the issue and Govan is tight-lipped as well. Both Fisher and Barnes once played for the Los Angeles Lakers for two seasons (2010-2012). A former teammate of the two told ESPN that the ex-Lakers players were once “very close.”
Barnes and Govan married in Santa Barbara in 2012 and split earlier this year. Court records reveal that the NBA star filed for divorce in January. The basketball player said the breakup was “difficult, especially when your ex is an attention seeker.”
The aspiring actress first met the NBA player when she was in middle school. “I was in eighth grade when I met him and I remember I had braces and looked like a disaster,” Govan candidly told Latina magazine in 2010. They only started dating in 2006 when he was playing for the Golden State Warriors.
In 2010, Barnes was arrested on charges of domestic violence against his then fiancée, Govan. However, she denied being abused by the NBA star during a fight at their home, and the charge was dropped afterwards.

Govan is considering filing a restraining order against her ex-husband following the physical confrontation, sources revealed.
Earlier this year, Barnes also posted tweets believed to be directed towards Govan after she showed up at the premiere of The Wedding Ringer wearing a red dress that bared her sideboob. Govan did not respond to his innuendos; however, her sister posted a topless photo of them on Twitter shortly after.
