David Tennant Warns ‘Jessica Jones’ In New Teaser, ‘I Know About Your Gifts’ [Watch]
Netflix has been releasing teasers here and there for the upcoming Marvel series Jessica Jones, starring Krysten Ritter as a former superhero-turned-detective. The first teaser was just that – a tease, as it didn’t feature Jones but rather flashy special effects. Then Netflix introduced her in the second teaser – crushing an alarm clock playing Minnie Riperton. The third teaser informed eager fans of Jones’ musical interests, and now the streaming service has released a fourth teaser that features Ritter as well as the hypnotic voice and face of David Tennant, who will play Zebediah Killgrave, better known as the villainous Purple Man, in the series. For fans, this teaser is the biggest one so far. Check it out below.
Tennant’s ominous voiceover tells Jones that, “I know your secrets. I know about your friends – about your gifts… I know everything.”
The Purple Man has the power to control people’s minds and is a major part of Jessica’s origin story, as Collider reports. Head of Marvel Television Jeph Loeb said he is confident that Tennant’s take as Kilgrave will rock fans just as mush as Vincent D’Onofrio’s performance as Wilson Fisk, AKA Kingpin, in Marvel’s Daredevil.
“In the same kind of way Vincent D’Onofrio owned his half of Daredevil,” Loeb said at this year’s TCA (via Indiewire), “you’ll see David Tennant own his half of Jessica Jones.…What you get out of Jessica is a sort of hold-your-breath tension as to what’s going to happen. When you see the dynamic between Krysten Ritter and David Tennant … that question of ‘What’s going to happen next?’ and ‘What could happen next?’ and how that’s driven by character is something that is so important to not just the scripts but also the way the show is shot, and the way that everyone reacts, and the way those two react with each other.”

SuperHeroHype reports that the new series “follows Jessica Jones as she rebuilds her personal life and career as a detective who gets pulled into cases involving people with extraordinary abilities in New York City.” Also starring on the show are Rachael Taylor as Patsy Walker, Mike Colter as Luke Cage, Carrie-Ann Moss as Harper, Eka Darville as Malcolm and Erin Moriarty as Hope. Jessica Jones will be followed on Netflix by Season 2 of Daredevil, which will be followed by Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and lastly a Defenders miniseries.

David, best known for his role as the tenth Doctor in the British sci-fi series Doctor Who, will reprise his role as William Shakespeare’s tragic king Richard II in a new London production in January. The Scottish actor won rave reviews for his previous performance in a Royal Shakespeare Company production of the play in 2013.
Fans of Tennant as the Tenth Doctor have been advised by the actor himself not to expect to see him return to Doctor Who anytime soon. Earlier this year, the Broadchurch star confessed that it will be “at least 10 years” before he would consider returning to the series again. Speaking to Digital Spy at the National Television Awards, where he was given the Special Recognition Award, David warned fans not to get their hopes up about seeing his Tenth Doctor opposite Peter Capaldi’s Time Lord.
“I think you have to ration these things,” he said. “It’s probably got to be at least 10 years before that happens again, I think.”
Whovians who are most fond of the Tenth Doctor – and will follow him across all of time and space – can catch David Tennant in Jessica Jones when it begins streaming on Netflix from November 20th.
