‘Spectre’ Actor Daniel Craig Quits! ‘The Bond Bank Is Dry’
While Spectre nears its theatrical release and James Bond fans gear up for yet another installment of the film franchise, Daniel Craig merely seems thankful for the break, following an eight-month filming schedule. Even the completion of the project was anti-climactic for Mr. Craig, and the Spectre actor reports that, like most films, the completion of the shooting schedule ended with a whimper, not with the presumed big bang. Most of us assume the actors congratulate one another, maybe go out with a big, full-blown cast party, but the latest actor to take on the role of James Bond says there are no big farewells.
James Bond Exhausts Daniel Craig
Now that Craig’s fourth Bond film is under his belt with the impending release of Spectre, the only thing on Daniel’s mind at this moment is a long holiday. Spectre‘s Craig says he needs the rest, but it may take time for his body to get in tune with his mind, and vice versa.
“I just want to switch my brain off. What usually happens is it’s 6 am on a Sunday and I’m bolt upright in bed thinking that I’ve got to go to work. It’s about switching that feeling off, turning the alarm off and going to sleep. I drink a lot more too. I’ve started this week. Just relaxing.”
It seemed, even before filming began on Spectre, that Daniel was fatigued by the idea of playing James Bond again, yet Mr. Craig still contributed all that he had into playing the famous 007 for a fourth time. While Craig, as well as others involved with Spectre, were all very interested in getting this latest James Bond film done as soon as was humanly possible, Craig revealed to Time Out that the studio had other ideas.
“In fact, there was a conversation at one point that went: ‘Let’s film two movies back to back.’ I just went: ‘You’re out of your f—ing minds.’ In the nicest possible way. They’re [James Bond films] just too big.”
Spectre May Be the Last of James Bond That Daniel Craig is Likely to See…Ever
Now that filming on Spectre has concluded and Daniel Craig has fulfilled his contractual obligations, the James bond actor states in no uncertain terms that he is finished with the film franchise. In fact, Mr. Craig reveals that any idea he’s had for a 007 plot has gone into Spectre, leaving James Bond for fresher minds.
“Every idea I’ve had for a Bond movie, I’ve stuck into this one. It’s gone in. The Bond bank is dry. If you’re asking me what would I do with another Bond movie? I haven’t a clue.”
When asked if he could consider doing another James Bond film, Mr. Craig has a very definite no on his lips and he means it. The Spectre actor reveals in his words that he has no more feeling for the role, the fire to explore the suave Ian Fleming character has been extinguished. There may very well be more Bond films in the future, but Craig is adamant that he will not be starring in them.
“I’d rather break this glass and slash my wrists. No, not at the moment. Not at all. That’s fine. I’m over it at the moment. We’re done. All I want to do is move on.”
According to Time magazine, Mr. Craig has some simple advice for the next James Bond. First, the Spectre actor advises that the actor in question make up his own mind at the end of the day, almost as though Daniel were confessing to having felt pressured into taking on the Bond role. And second?
“Don’t be s**t. You’ve got to step up. People do not make movies like this any more. This is really rare now. So don’t be s**t.”
Spectre, starring Daniel Craig as James Bond, will premiere on November 6 in theaters.
