Hope Solo Facing Domestic Violence Charges — Star Allegedly Beat Up Teenage Nephew
If Hope Solo was hoping to rebuild her reputation, this probably won’t help: once-dismissed domestic violence charges against her have been reinstated, and the soccer goalie’s family is finally giving details about the incident.
After the June, 2014, altercation, Hope was charged with two counts of fourth-degree domestic violence, but those charges were ultimately dismissed by the court because the alleged victims — Solo’s half-sister and her son — weren’t cooperating, Larry Brown Sports reported.
Prosecutors immediately filed an appeal. And now, a Washington state appeals court has ruled in favor of the prosecution, and Solo is facing those charges once again, ESPN reported. The court didn’t determine when a new trial would take place.
Hope has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing and has called herself the victim in the 2014 incident, both when police initially arrived on scene and afterward. Solo used the dismissal of the charges to complain about how the media had portrayed her and to reinforce the idea that she was a victim who had been vindicated.
“We are shocked and disappointed by the judge’s ruling this morning,” Todd Maybrown, Solo’s attorney, said in a statement following the ruling. “However, we maintain our position that the charges in this case should have never been filed, that the original trial court’s dismissal of the case was correct, and we plan to file an appeal of today’s decision with the Court of Appeals.”
Following the court’s decision, the alleged victims have finally come forward to detail what happened that night last year. And they claim, according to KIRO, that it all began when they asked Hope not to drink and drive, which then culminated in shocking violence.

The alleged victims are Hope’s half-sister, Teresa Obert, and her 17-year-old son, whom Star Pulse described as weighing 280 pounds and standing 6 foot 9 inches tall. After Hope pulled into the driveway — her family insists while drunk — the young man, Christian, said his aunt started to insult him.
What happened next took place in the garage. He asked Solo to leave (reports indicated that Christian alternately came after her with a broomstick and a BB gun), and then she struck him across the chin. He fought back by pushing her into a filing cabinet. Then Hope lunged at him and the fight moved to the floor.
Obert described the scene next.
“She tackled him again and grabbed his head and kept slamming him into the cement. Over and over. And his ear was bleeding, his nose was bleeding. So I got behind and I pulled with all my might to get her off of him.”
Hope then allegedly turned on her half-sister, punching her in the face repeatedly until she spit out part of a tooth. Bruised and bleeding, Teresa asked her son to call 911. She’d never intended for Hope to get into trouble, she said.
“It wasn’t for all of this. And if she just would have said sorry and taken the plea and got herself help, this would be over. But we continue on because she continues to lie … I mean, we’ll never speak again.”
The incident has torn the family apart.
This isn’t the first time Hope has been in trouble with the law. In January, she was suspended from the national team after cops pulled over her and her husband, former NFLer Jerramy Stevens. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI, and Solo was allegedly confrontational toward the cops during the stop.
Just this July, Solo led the U.S. women’s soccer team to win the World Cup.
